Hyundai Motor strengthens its connections with Nvidia by using the U.S.-based chipmaker’s in-vehicle information and entertainment drive system in connected car system for all Hyundai, Kia and Genesis models starting in 2022.

Under the agreement, Hyundai Motor, Kia Motors and its luxury car brand Genesis would carry a new system called “Nvidia Drive.” The connected car platform offers autonomous driver assistance powered by deep learning technology.

Nvidia Drive contains a software and hardware stack that combine audio, video, connectivity, navigation and artificial intelligence (AI)-based ‘connected car’ services. Nvidia Drive also quickly processes large amounts of data.

Currently, many Hyundai models include decentralized software functions run by loads of electronic control units. The application of the Nvidia system would enable centralization of the computer set up in the vehicles. It would also make it simpler to upgrade software features for automated and autonomous cars.

Quality Service

Ali Kani, Nvidia’s vice president of autonomous vehicles, stated that Nvidia introduced graphics-rich user interface and consumer electronic functionality to in-vehicle infotainment systems more than a decade ago. He added that Nvidia continuously transforms its systems using AI, helping Hyundai Motor improve its value, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Hyundai stated that the next-generation connected car system features the capability to process enormous amounts of data rapidly. The in-vehicle system would also provide a perfect connection between the vehicle and its surroundings. Furthermore, the system would recognize and assess the drivers’ intentions and health condition and deliver enhanced safety features.

Paul Choo, Hyundai’s Electronics Tech Unit senior VP, said that Hyundai would deliver value, functionality, safety and satisfaction throughout the vehicle’s lifetime. The proven Nvidia Drive system includes accessibility, energy efficiency and could support next-generation software-defined vehicles.

Since 2015, Hyundai has worked with Nvidia, using the chipmaker’s driving platform in the Genesis GV80 SUV and G80 sedan.

Additionally, the South Korean carmaker said that it collaborated with Nvidia in creating an advanced digital cockpit for future vehicles. The digital cockpit system would enable the driver to access information regarding safety and driving convenience.
