Speaking with KoreaTechToday, Sylvain Chaperon, General Manager of CPaaS at 8×8, said the country’s digital maturity creates an environment where enterprises are able to move beyond experimentation much more rapidly.
“South Korea occupies a genuinely distinct position in the APAC landscape. This is a market where the infrastructure expectations are extraordinarily high. 5G penetration, broadband speeds, and mobile usage patterns set the benchmark for the region.”
He added that government policy is reinforcing this momentum.
“It is also a market where government policy is actively accelerating the pace. South Korea’s 2026 budget includes a significant commitment to AI and deep tech investment, and that policy tailwind is visible in how quickly enterprises are moving from pilots to production.”
This evolution reflects a broader shift occurring across enterprise AI. Early deployments largely focused on demonstrating AI capabilities. Today’s deployments increasingly prioritize measurable business outcomes including operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, fraud reduction, employee productivity, and revenue growth.
The distinction matters because production AI requires far more than deploying a chatbot. Organizations must integrate AI with customer relationship management platforms, communication channels, authentication systems, analytics, compliance frameworks, and existing enterprise workflows.

The company’s own business metrics also suggest that enterprise adoption is accelerating. During fiscal 2026, usage-based revenue grew by more than 50% year over year, while fourth-quarter usage-based revenue increased by more than 70%. Messaging API interactions rose 218% year over year, and AI-powered self-service interactions more than doubled, indicating growing demand for AI-enabled customer engagement rather than isolated experimentation.
These trends mirror what is increasingly visible across South Korea’s enterprise landscape, where AI is becoming embedded into core customer operations instead of functioning as a standalone innovation initiative.
Beyond KakaoTalk: The rise of intelligent channel orchestration
South Korea’s communication ecosystem presents a unique challenge for enterprises. KakaoTalk remains the country’s dominant messaging platform and serves as a primary communication channel for businesses. Yet customer journeys rarely begin and end on a single platform.
According to Chaperon, the country’s leading enterprises have already evolved beyond a single-channel strategy.
“What stands out most is how channel orchestration has matured. KakaoTalk is not just a messaging app. It is infrastructure, with near-universal penetration. But sophisticated Korean enterprises have figured out that KakaoTalk is one instrument, not the whole ensemble.”
Instead of relying exclusively on one platform, organizations increasingly assign communication channels according to customer needs.

“In most other APAC markets, that level of deliberate orchestration is still aspirational,” Chaperon told KoreaTechToday.

“There is also a two-way channel challenge that is easy to underestimate. Korean enterprises with international customers need to bridge into the messaging ecosystems their overseas audiences use, including WhatsApp, RCS, and others.”
“International brands entering Korea face the reverse. Reaching customers effectively means going beyond KakaoTalk to include MMS and LMS, the extended messaging formats embedded in Korean communication habits.”
For internationally active Korean enterprises, omnichannel communication has therefore become a business necessity rather than simply a customer experience enhancement.
