Naver Cloud Introduces Real-Time Streaming for CLOVA Speech: Live Broadcasts with AI Subtitling

Naver Cloud, the cloud computing division of Naver Corp. in South Korea, has unveiled a new “real-time streaming” feature for its enterprise-level speech-to-text service, CLOVA Speech. This functionality enables businesses to extract spoken content from live broadcasts and instantly generate subtitles using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

CLOVA Speech, renowned for its high accuracy in Korean speech recognition and swift processing speed, is a speech-to-text (STT) solution available through the Naver Cloud Platform for enterprises.

It is integrated into various applications such as automatic subtitle generation for Naver Shopping Live broadcasts, Naver News and management of customer service call data.

The latest addition to Naver Cloud’s CLOVA Speech feature set is the real-time streaming capability, which swiftly transcribes spoken content into text during live streaming videos. This functionality supports three languages: Korean, English, and Japanese, enabling the instantaneous generation of subtitles from the speaker’s voice.

With real-time streaming technology, the need for manual transcription by stenographers during live broadcasts is eliminated, streamlining the process of providing live captions. This innovation extends to customer service centers, where phone conversations can be promptly transcribed into text, facilitating quicker responses to customer inquiries and enhancing overall service efficiency.

Concurrently with the introduction of real-time streaming, Naver Cloud has revamped its pricing structure, offering more flexibility to users while reducing costs. The expenses associated with voice recognition and speaker recognition have been slashed by 40% from their previous rates, and fees are now categorized based on specific functionalities such as voice recognition, speaker recognition, and event detection.

This segmentation allows customers to select and pay only for the required features, tailoring the service to their needs. Additionally, Naver Cloud has introduced an optional feature for assessing the accuracy of English pronunciation, further enhancing the versatility of its offerings.

With these adjustments, Naver Cloud aims to democratize access to its services, making them more accessible to a broader range of users. By streamlining pricing and introducing new features, the company seeks to provide enhanced value and cater to the diverse requirements of its clientele.

Kim Seong-hoon, the AI product planning manager at Naver Cloud, highlighted the potential applications of the real-time streaming feature, stating, “We anticipate major utilization of the ‘real-time streaming’ function in sectors that rely on immediate broadcasting, such as broadcasters, live commerce enterprises, and YouTubers.” He emphasized the company’s plans to advance the AI-driven Clova service, asserting, “Our objective is to continually enhance the capabilities of Clova to meet evolving industry demands. We remain dedicated to supporting the growth of businesses utilizing our technology.”
