Samsung Electronics, the leading memory chip manufacturer, and Naver., a prominent online giant in South Korea, have partnered to venture into intelligent office buildings. This collaboration extends their cooperation in tech domains, from artificial intelligence semiconductors to generative AI.

The strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formalized at Naver Cloud’s NCloud Space headquarters in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

The synergy aims to create a comprehensive suite of intelligent office-building solutions. Samsung plans to introduce specialized packages tailored for B2B clients, leveraging the capabilities of SmartThings and 5G, which are tightly integrated with Naver Cloud’s solutions.

The collaboration is not confined to the domestic market, as the companies envision a global impact with customized offerings for businesses seeking advanced and integrated building solutions.

Samsung plans to offer a service catering to Business-to-Business (B2B) customers. The service will commence by incorporating SmartThings, 5G, and Naver Cloud into the Naver 1784 headquarters building in South Korea. The collaborative efforts aim to bring ‘Calm Tech’ to devices, solutions, and services, facilitating efficient interconnectivity.

Industry research firm Data Intelligence forecasts growth in the global market for building management systems, a key segment of the intelligent building sector. The market is projected to surge to over $47.6 billion by 2030, up from $14.2 billion the previous year.

Building on the success of its collaborative venture with Samsung, Naver Cloud aims to commercialize technology and solutions developed by Team Naver. These include advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), digital twins, and robotics, focusing on the 1784 Naver headquarters. The initiative promises a change in intelligent office tower management encompassing user-centric governance, energy provisioning, and security administration.

The collaborative efforts will kick off with the launch of a working group focused on commercializing specialized packages for Business-to-Business (B2B) customers. The initial implementation will target domestic office buildings in South Korea, followed by a strategic and gradual expansion into overseas markets, guided by successful implementations.

Additionally, Samsung and Naver are deepening their collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI). Here, Samsung will introduce an AI chip for Naver, a development that elevates Naver’s hyperscale AI services, notably HyperCLOVA X.

Simultaneously, the duo has been actively engaged in joint efforts to advance generative AI services. Naver is gearing up to unveil a tailored AI service targeting Samsung’s semiconductor business employees, which is scheduled for launch next month.

Kang Bong-gu, Vice President of Samsung Electronics Korea, expressed, “The collaboration between Naver Cloud, a key player with strong competitiveness in AI, robotics, and cloud technologies, and Samsung Electronics, renowned for its leading technology in B2B-specialized products, solutions, services, and 5G networks, aims to develop an outstanding solution. Our intention is to pioneer the future intelligent office building market, elevating customer experience and value to new heights.”
