4DREPLAY, a South Korean media technology startup, strengthened existing 5G mobile communication services through its 4DLive service global expansion. 4DLive is a real-time, multi-view streaming service for mobile applications, enabling users to view 360-degree immersive video content.

Making Korea a Smart Automation Forerunner

Over the past years, South Korea established a leading position in the international 5G market, developing high-quality, industry-leading 5G infrastructure with broad coverage. The country also offered the world’s first-ever commercialized 5G mobile network services, with the technology recently hitting its second anniversary.

Furthermore, 5G technologies continue to bring fundamental changes throughout telecommunication service systems and advancing various industrial environments through significant investments.

In response to the pandemic’s negative economic impacts, the South Korean government’s Ministry of Science and ICT(MSIT) plans to make the country a smart automation era forerunner. To this end, MSIT developed a ‘virtuous cycle’ for the fast-growing 5G ecosystem as part of Korea’s Digital New Deal.

Moreover, Born2Global Centre performs a central role in MSIT’s goal by giving local startups opportunities to go global. Besides cultivating the domestic startup scene, the MSIT agency offers startup accounting, consulting, investing, marketing, training, and other business developments.

Bullet-Time Camera Tech for Real-Time Broadcasting

Since becoming a Born2Global member in 2017, 4DREPLAY, a startup specializing in advanced 4D technologies, significantly enhanced mobile communication services. In particular, 4DREPLAY developed 4DLive, a mobile-based, real-time, 360-degree media streaming technology.

4DLive uses bullet-time camera technology, allowing users to view, zoom in or out, and replay subjects from all angles. In addition to delivering multi-angle viewing, the technology enables users to edit the footage and transmit them within only five seconds.

Due to the unmatched viewing experience it generates, many sports and other entertainment events employ 4DLive, especially for ‘highlight’ scenes. Previously in 2019, 4DREPLAY offered its 4DLive video-streaming service to South Korea’s third-largest mobile service provider LG Uplus.

Applying 4DLive to International Sporting Events

Following its domestic success, 4DREPLAY collaborated with Japan’s SoftBank to apply 4DLive to the latter’s 5G mobile network services. SoftBank also utilized its 5G technologies and 4DLive for live-streaming sporting events and transmitting massive data quantities at ultra-fast speeds.

4DREPLAY also offered 4DLive to the 5G mobile communication platform Bell Canada, Canada’s largest telecommunications provider. Besides using 4DLive for sports broadcasting, Bell Canada featured the technology as a special function on the TSN/RDS mobile app.

“4DLive, which allows the user to essentially take control of time and space by manipulating videos sent in real-time however that user chooses, will continue to give consumers around the world captivating, one-of-a-kind experiences that highlight all of the best features of 5G content,” said Jung Hong-Su, 4DREPLAY’s CEO.
