Naver announced that it had established a dedicated AI research center in Vietnam as part of its global network expansion. The South Korean engineering company opened the research center in partnership with Vietnam’s Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST). Established in1956, HUST is one of the top Vietnamese universities and has made significant science and engineering field accomplishments.

The partners held a video conference for the opening ceremony, wherein many high-ranking government officials attended. Some of the prominent Vietnamese attendees include the Vice Minister of Education and the Vice Minister of Science and Technology. Many Naver officials also participated in the event, including the Naver Chief Operating Officer and the Naver AI Lab Head.

AI Center in HUST

By establishing the AI research center on the HUST campus, Naver helps Vietnam improve its nationwide digital transformation. Moreover, the AI research center’s opening would accommodate basic studies involving Vietnam’s technologies, supporting extensive AI application to multiple sectors.

Inside the research facility, Naver engineers and local IT talents could collaborate to develop various technologies, including autonomous driving systems, deep learning modeling, and robotics. Additionally, Naver would offer multiple projects such as AI-related training programs, scholarships and internships, and exclusive lectures from Naver researchers.

Aside from offering in-depth AI studies and training, the center would also strengthen academic and industry cooperation. According to Naver, the new establishment’s primary goal is to link AI research centers across Vietnam. In addition to this, the new AI research center also aims to fortify connections with other major global AI centers.

Global AI R&D Belt

“HUST has been in constant exchange with Naver, a leading Korean company, to build a global AI research belt since 2019,” said Huing Quet Tang, President of HUST. “We will make efforts to apply new technologies centered on AI in various fields to accelerate the 4th industrial revolution in Vietnam.”

In 2019, Naver announced it would build a global AI research and development belt to pioneer the growing AI industry. Notably, the AI R&D belt’s primary focus is to create synergy between academic institutions, promising startups, and other AI companies. Naver’s global AI research belt involves technology centers and networks throughout France, Vietnam, Japan, and South Korea. Naver also stated that it plans to continue expanding the R&D belt, covering more regions around the world.
