Samsung SDS Co. announced on Tuesday that it recently secured a defense and mobile security business in Italy.

The I.T. service affiliate of Samsung Group said its mobility management (EMM) solution would provide a secure mobile work environment to an Italian government agency. The company also won an indoor location tracking system project for Singapore’s public institutions.

Samsung SDS cited confidentiality, declining to disclose the value of the deal and the identity of the customer.

The company said it signed the deal in early January before Italy began reporting patients infected with COVID-19.

Since 2015, Samsung SDS concentrated on carrying out overseas orders for mobile security projects. The South Korean company’s customers include the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Army, defense organizations in Britain, and public institutions in Singapore.

The solution provides necessary mobile security functions for defense and public institutions. The mobile security features include device management and remote control of terminals under security policies. The policies include user rating, preventing the installation of non-business applications, and blocking unsafe access to a network.

Notably, Samsung SDS’s EMM solution received the latest Common Criteria (CC) certificate for Information Security Assessment for iOS and Android operating systems. The certification came from the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) of the National Security Agency (NSA) last February for the first time internationally.

The CC certification is required for introducing information security products by public organizations. Samsung SDS strengthened further its security level by expanding its cryptographic communication sections between upgrading security algorithms and servers.

Indoor Tracking

Samsung SDS also recently acquired additional orders for “Indoor Tracking” solutions from Singapore. The company incorporated the latest technologies such as artificial intelligence (A.I.) and blockchain into its highly secure Brightics IoT platform.

The indoor location tracking system uses the latest IoT technology to identify visitors’ real-time locations. The system would prevent information leaks and security breaches by restricting access to secure areas.

Vice president of Samsung SDS’ solution business, Lim Soo-hyun, said that the company is making progress in the international mobile security market grounded on differentiated technology. He added that they would expand their first-class mobile security business through the application of A.I., IoT, and blockchain platforms.
