NAVER LABS to Unveil Robot with Super-Sized AI Capabilities

Naver Labs, the AI and robotics research arm of Naver Corporation in South Korea, is gearing up to unveil a robot integrated with super-sized AI capabilities later this year. The company plans to commercialize this advanced robot within the next three years.

While current robots are limited to performing tasks in designated sections based on learned behaviors, the integration of super-sized AI opens up new possibilities.

Robots empowered with super-giant AI will be capable of executing missions without needing separate learning. For instance, cooking robots, which previously could only prepare specific menus they had learned, are anticipated to evolve significantly with the incorporation of super-giant AI, enabling them to cook a wide range of dishes effortlessly.

Seok Sang-ok, the CEO of NAVER LABS, shared that the company has been actively experimenting with integrating super-sized AI into various fields that demand robotic applications for the past two years. This research and development effort aims to explore the potential of super-giant AI in enhancing robotic capabilities across diverse industries.

The scalability of robots equipped with such advanced AI enables them to perform tasks without additional training.

He shared his vision for the near future: “As early as the end of this year, some of the robots in Naver’s second headquarters, 1784, will be operated based on this technology.”

Cooking robots, which previously could only prepare specific dishes they were trained for, are expected to transcend their limitations and master cooking across a broad spectrum of recipes with super-sized AI.

The potential impact of robots possessing AI with such a parameter count anticipates how these machines interact and operate in various sectors.

Last Week, Google showcased RT-2, a robot boasting voice-commanded robotic arms that can lift and move designated objects. Concurrently, Microsoft is exploring the application of ChatGPT, a language model, to robots.

Naver’s attempts in autonomous driving are much in talk as the company is incorporating its proprietary super-sized AI, HyperCLOVA X, into robots. The unveiling of HyperCLOVA X is scheduled for August 24, marking a pivotal moment for Naver as it explores commercial applications for this advanced AI technology.

The integration of super-sized AI into robots has yielded impressive results, with these AI-driven machines surpassing previous records in tasks such as pathfinding and object manipulation. The time taken for the robots to adapt to novel environments has been reduced, with the potential for further advancements in autonomous operations.
