SK Shieldus, a life care platform company owned by SK Group and DOGU, a robotics research and development company will develop and enhance the guided patrol robot industry in South Korea.

SK Shieldus specializes in security management and robot business operations. Meanwhile, DOGU specializes in autonomous driving patrol robots.

Guided patrol robots offer significant benefits to service-based businesses, such as hospitals and railway stations. The domestic service robot market in South Korea has been indeed experiencing continuous growth.

South Korea stands as a leading country in terms of robot usage. The market size for service robots has reached approximately 900 billion won in 2021—a significant 40 percent growth compared to 2019.

By 2024, South Korea plans to support its police force with robots during nighttime patrols. Self-driving patrol robots are already in use in urban areas like Seoul. The country had the highest robot densities in manufacturing industries with about 932 robots per 1000 employees in 2022.

The demand for patrolling robots is predicted to continue growing globally. The market is projected to achieve a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 10.8 percent in 2023, amounting to a value of $438.3 million.

In this partnership, SK Shieldus will look after business operations, including sales, management, and related services for guide patrol robots. With its robust infrastructure network in South Korea, the company plans to further leverage this advantage in the future.

DOGU, as a robotics company, excels in building customized robots for various customers and providing artificial intelligence-led security software. DOGU, within this partnership, will provide technical support to ensure the effective use of guided patrol robots in diverse environments.

SK Shieldus and DOGU robot subscription services

Both companies have their sights set on introducing innovative robot subscription services in the coming years. Through the partnership between SK Shieldus and DOGU, consumers will gain access to an extensive range of enhanced guide patrol robots capable of serving as fire alarms, emergency detectors, and more, addressing various needs. These robots will also provide valuable guidance and assistance to businesses, promoting efficiency.

Moreover, business owners can rely on the automated nature of these robots, eliminating concerns about charging or refuelling. Equipped with integrated cameras and sensors, the robots enable users to monitor their performance at any time.

According to Kim Yun-ho, the head of SK Shieldus’ growth promotion office, the company will continue expanding and forming strategic partnerships in the future.
