Naver, the South Korean tech giant, is entering the widely discussed metaverse universe as it announced its latest tech advancement, ‘Arcverse.’ This virtual communities connecting platform is a metaverse tech ecosystem driven by technologies such as AI, cloud, and autonomous driving.

Naver Labs has worked on this project for the past five years, and it finally came up with the name ‘Arcverse.’ Seok Sang-ok, CEO of Naver Labs, addressed the subject at the company’s 14th developer conference. “We will soon launch Arcverse, a metaverse ecosystem that connects the virtual world and real world. In Arcverse, users will be able to use the data and services from both worlds at the same time,” he added.

“In Arcverse, country borders would be meaningless, the company said,” states a media outlet shared by the company. With Arcverse connecting the virtual world with the real world, users will be able to leverage artificial intelligence to make things such as making a cup of coffee in the real world through the virtual world.

Digital Twin is a virtual model that reflects a physical object with precision. The Arcverse connects with the real world through this system while also integrating with other systems such as robotics, automated driving, and AR. To bridge the gap between the two worlds, AI, cloud, and 5G come into play and aim to offer an enhanced experience to the user.

Naver aims to connect the online world with the physical world naturally. Seok explained, “AI will mainly play the role of optimizing perception and understanding, the robot will play the role of a physical mediator of the real world, and the cloud will play the role of a digital twin virtual world platform. It can be applied to society in various forms, from VR to smart buildings to smart cities.”

Along with the big announcement of Arvcerse, Naver unveiled its upcoming projects of offering top-notch AI services. While speaking at the event, Sung Nak-ho, team leader of AI platform Naver Clova added, “Many are becoming familiar with AI services such as Clova Note and Face Sign. On that note, ‘Hyper Clova’ will provide new AI services that will improve our daily lives.”

In May this year, the company launched the first-ever Korean-language AI model. The model plays a crucial role in employing other tech projects as it contains a massive amount of Korean learning data. It primarily aims to assist Korean users in the local languages.

Although Deview started as an internal tech event, it is now made public after its 3rd annual developers’ conference. Since then, the company has been featuring its research projects and other tech developments at Naver Labs.
