Samsung partnered with Q CELLS, a high-quality solar cell developer, to launch a zero energy home solution, promoting eco-friendly home energy consumption.

Samsung Electronics Co. and Q CELLS strategically teamed up to develop zero energy home solutions by combining their technological expertise. Zero energy homes only consume self-produced energy, offering enhanced sustainability and self-efficiency.

Optimizing Energy Consumption

Moreover, these homes become self-sufficient by generating energy from renewable sources, including solar. Zero home energy solutions also minimize energy consumption by utilizing related efficient devices.

Under the memorandum of understanding, the two companies would develop a solution incorporating Samsung’s SmartThings Energy service with Q CELLS’ energy storage systems (ESS) and solar modules.

Samsung’s easy-to-use SmartThings Energy Control Internet-of-Things (IoT) platform establishes connections between home appliances. Notably, the platform enables mobile users to control their household energy through the SmartThings app.

Besides saving household energy, SmartThings enables homeowners to save on bills, remotely control devices, and reduce carbon footprints. Samsung also recently introduced new SmartThings features for added safety and convenience.

Notably, this new technology would enable homeowners to generate and store energy. Samsung and Q CELLS’ solution also allows users to use the SmartThings IoT platform to track and efficiently optimize the energy consumption of various home appliances, including heat pumps.

For example, the new technology automatically controls SmartThings-connected home appliances. In particular, the solution switches the devices to energy-saving mode during nights, cloudy weather, or low solar energy capture levels.

The two South Korean companies would initially introduce the newly developed technology to the US and European markets. Then, they would extend the solution’s availability to markets across the globe.

Strengthening Global Market Presence

“We look forward to our collaboration with Q CELLS expanding our presence and strengthening the Samsung brand in global markets,” said Lee Jae-Seung, President of Samsung Electronics Digital Appliance Business.

Lee also revealed that Samsung expects its intelligent home appliances and the SmartThings platform to create synergy with Q CELLS’ storage and solar energy technologies.

Meanwhile, Q CELLS CEO Kim Hee-Cheol, forecasted that Q CELLS’ collaboration with Samsung would effectively address its global customers’ needs. Q CELLS also plans to introduce more ultra-competitive energy solutions through the Samsung partnership.

According to Kim, Q CELLS aims to land a leading position in the international residential energy market. Q CELLS also remains hopeful that its business synergy with the industry-leading electronics developer would continue producing more innovative technologies.
