General Motors revealed their plan to upgrade GM Technical Center Korea’s (GMTCK) global design capabilities. Also known as GM Korea Design Center, GMTCK is General Motors’ second-largest vehicle design and engineering development operation site. Located in Incheon, GM Korea Design Center conducts automobile development projects for exterior and interior design modeling and studio engineering.
“We look forward to increasing our number of talented designers with excellent capabilities to collaborate on next-generation global vehicle design tasks for GM,” said Roberto Rempel, GMTCK’s president. In addition to the company’s over 3,200 employees, GMTCK plans to give its design team further support. Currently, GMTCK is strengthening its design capacity by recruiting vehicle designers, clay sculptors, commercial designers, and other design-oriented developers.
With the future recruits, GMTCK’s designing capacity will grow by up to 20%. “We will foster their development as key professionals in the global market through cooperation with GM’s other global technical centers,” continued Rempel.
GM Technical Center Korea’s Design Capability
By investing in the improvement of GMTCK, General Motors is strengthening 24 of its global vehicle development initiatives. Following the personnel recruitment, General Motors is working towards expanding GMTCK’s world-class automobile design technologies. More than 150 designers and developers handle design programs for GM’s next-generation outputs n the South Korean technical center. Using advanced technologies and improved facility capabilities, GMTCK targets diversifying General Motors’ product portfolio and widening its global network.
According to Rempel, the GMTCK design capability upgrade is in line with General Motors’ ‘triple-zero vision,’ aiming for zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion. The triple-zero vision is GM’s business model that targets to finish the company’s manufacture of vehicles powered by diesel and gasoline. GM also announced they are striving for carbon neutrality by 2040 and planning to employ 100% renewable energy in their US plants by 2030.
Moreover, General Motors praised GMTCK for its accomplishments in designing and developing vehicle technologies and the design team and engineers. General Motors also said that the South Korean subsidiary is one of the company’s best technical centers.
