ROIIVE Developing Advanced Core Autonomous Vehicle Camera Tech

South Korean startup ROIIVE actively developing core technologies for automotive camera applications for autonomous vehicles.

South Korean startup ROIIVE said that it is actively developing core technologies for automotive camera applications such as recognition and judgment systems for autonomous vehicles.

In the recent decade, the automotive industry saw numerous advancements, such as autonomous driving, connected car technology, infotainment, and electric vehicles. Established in 2019, the company aims to commercialize and market advanced camera products in this fast-growing industry.

The advancements call for stricter regulations for safety, traffic, and the environment requiring advanced core automotive camera technology. Automotive cameras assist drivers for accurate parking, maneuvering, as well as assess overall vehicle performance. They play a vital role, especially for autonomous or self-driving cars providing more safety features and data analysis conversion.

Core Technology

A core component of the camera application, CMOS Image Sensor & Image Signal Processor Semiconductor, enhanced ROIIVE’s core product. The startup’s technology could increase the quality and performance of automotive cameras.

ROIIVE’s automotive camera application includes necessary core functions such as the application of HDR and LFM technology and the installation of ISP (image processing). The core technology also contains a recognition algorithm and software tailored to the driving environment through vehicle mounting location. ROIIVE aims to produce better video quality and user interface, compact size for mounting, optical lenses with a minimal night light reflection, and compatible UVC (USB Video Class).

ROIIVE offers its products for three main automotive business sectors:

  • Embedded vision system camera kit;
  • Autonomous vehicle’s ADAS & Vision System multichannel camera; and,
  • Smart factory process industrial vision camera

Planning for the Future

Backed by 20 years’ worth of research, ROIIVE officially introduced its first product in 2019. ROIIVE supplied camera sensor module products to the Cooperative-Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) pilot project. The C-ITS pilot project is a collaboration between Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport and the Korea Expressway Corporation.

ROIIVE achieved 800 million won (US$722 million) in annual sales and the development of a vehicle camera for export to Japan. The firm currently established a strategic partnership with an autonomous driving platform developer, installing and demonstrating the products in vehicles.

ROIIVE plans to introduce more products, aiming to transform the future of automotive camera applications. The startup also intends to expand its services through its online store to reach more customers and achieve faster commercialization.
