As the COVID-19 pandemic took its toll on the roaming services revenue from overseas, the three South Korean mobile carriers SK Telecom, KT, and LG U+ announced that they enhanced their services to attract new customers, particularly with foreign residents.

SK Telecom, LG U+, and KT introduced new services offered to foreign customers living in South Korea. Currently, over 2.2 million foreigners live in the country, according to the Korea Immigration Service.

SK Telecom’s MIRI

SK Telecom launched its new prepaid service, “Miri,” on Sunday. The facility features a prepaid credit of 10,000 won ($8.37) to 5 million won ($4187) worth SK Telecom product services. Miri allows foreign users to charge their telecom fees, mobile phone installments, content usage fees, and other small payments.

Customers also enjoy discount offers based on membership and contract type and mobile subsidies. The company will also refund the remaining balance in the account of the customer if they cancel their membership with SK.

Additionally, SK Telecom would provide a maximum credit limit of 600,000 won ($502) for foreign customers paying 100,000 won ($83.7) in advance. Additionally, SK Telecom provided customer service support in different languages such as English, Chinese, and Japanese. Various 5G service apps, including Mobile T-World, and Jump AR and VR would operate this year.

KT’s Foreign-language Support Service and LG U+’s “Early Bird” Campaign

KT improved its foreign-language support service for foreign residents. The service provided tech support to foreigners who encounter problems in internet and TV installation services. KT also reassigned employees at roaming centers in airports to support centers for international customers.

Meanwhile, LG U+ introduced an “early bird” campaign that enables customers to avail of a discounted price of roaming services for future travel use. The company stated that the gift card services promotion would run until the end of August.

Customers of LG U+ have an option to select either a 10 percent or 15 percent discount. In addition, customers can enjoy free travel insurance worth 100 million won ($83,734). Members have the privilege to convert or change their call plans and receive refunds if they wish to cancel their trips abroad and not incur cancellation fees.
