uLikeKorea announced on Wednesday that it successfully developed a “COVID-19 body patch monitoring technology” that could monitor the user’s real-time data of symptoms and conditions. The South Korean ICT company specializes in smart livestock management systems.
Hee-jin, CEO of uLikeKorea, said that the company based the COVID-19 patch system on its Livecare analysis technology that could detect the early onset of disease in livestock.
In an effort to assist in preventing the further spread of the coronavirus, uLikeKorea aims to offer the system both in South Korea and abroad on an emergency basis. The company said it developed the system using artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) technology.
Assisting in Prevention of Virus Spread
According to the company, the patch contains environmentally friendly and non-toxic materials that attach to the user’s chest. The system, which measures 5cm by 5cm, could detect the user’s biometric data, temperature, location, and activity level in real-time.
Particularly, the system analyzes the health status of COVID-19 patients by using AI and IoT. The technology could also measure abnormal temperature and monitor coughs. CEO Kim said that the patch could help individuals that require monitoring of their health condition and location.
uLikeKorea said that the patch could be used for up to four months.
Kim added that the system could effectively monitor individuals subject to quarantine and patients who have recovered from the disease. The COVID-19 patch app uses a dedicated app and web program that provides real-time data to regional health administration offices and government agencies.
The patch sends an alarm to a mobile phone if an individual goes out of a designated quarantine area. It provides authorities to take quick action to prevent further the spread of the virus.
The company said that it is in talks with SoftBank, a global IT conglomerate, in entering the international market; notably, countries experiencing a high rate of infection such as Brazil and the U.S.
uLikeKorea added that the patch has a price range of about 37,000 won ($30).
According to Kim, the company would first offer its COVID-19 patch system in the country as soon as it obtains the government’s emergency approval. He added that they want to provide the technology free to domestic healthcare providers.
