Nexon announced that it implemented a subscription-based model for its shooting game “Sudden Attack.”

According to the South Korean game company, Sudden Attack, a first-person shooting game, offers a subscription service named “Sudden Pass.”

The service provides subscribers with limited items and exclusive characters as they level up.

Currently, players could purchase the subscription for 12,800 won ($10.4) and partake through the second season of Sudden Pass. The season started on April 9 and would last until July 2.

The second season allows users to receive rewards such as exclusive lunar designed weapons and limited edition characters as they level up. Subscribers could level up to a maximum of 60.

A Nexon official said that the Sudden Pass event motivated users to play. As more people stay at home due to the coronavirus pandemic, the number of Sudden Pass subscribers doubled compared to the last season in 2019. The official added that the current participation rate of players surged to 70 percent from the previous season.

In addition to the subscription service, Sudden Attack brought in new and exciting playable characters from popular Korean media content.

Itaewon Class Comes to Sudden Attack

Last week, Sudden Attack introduced new game characters based on actors and actresses who starred in the popular television drama “Itaewon Class.” The webcomic-based TV hit series, starring Park Seo-joon, Kim Da-mi, Yoo Jae-myung, and Kwon Nara, aired from January 31 to March 21 this year.

According to Neilsen Korea, a media research firm, the final episode of “Itaewon Class” recorded a whopping 16.5 percent nationwide audience share. The episode became the third-highest viewership rating for JTBC and seventh highest for a drama in Korean cable television history.

“Itaewon Class” is the first series produced by Showbox, one of the largest film distribution companies in South Korea.

Nexon GT said that Sudden Attack focuses on new content that users could enjoy and would keep them loyal. According to the game company, 60 percent of subscribers play Sudden Attack each day.
