South Korean tech giant LG Electronics announced its partnership with American tech Microsoft to develop its automotive infotainment system, building management systems, and other business-to-business (B2B) collaborations.

During the Consumers Electronics Show 2020 in Las Vegas, LG and Microsoft signed a memorandum of agreement that allows LG Electronics to leverage Microsoft’s cloud computing service Microsoft Azure and its other artificial intelligence (AI) services to advance the digitization of LG’s B2B growth.

LG aims to improve its building management systems with its Building Energy Control (BECON) technology. BECON manages and controls heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems efficiently with the help of Azure.

Last year, LG initiated its partnership with Microsoft to develop further and nurture LG’s infotainment business systems and self-driving vehicle technology. LG plans to diversify its portfolio also envisioning to expand the scope of its businesses from the automotive sector venturing to the commercial space.

Microsoft Azure’s data and hybrid cloud + AI services will help LG to develop the next version of the BECON, extending the system’s reach across the globe.

LG’s in-vehicle infotainment system will also integrate Azure enhancing users’ experience. Microsoft Connected Vehicle Platform and LG’s webOS Auto will combine for the next generation of connected car builds.

In the next version of LG’s webOS Auto, the company will include various human-machine interface (HMI) experiences, particularly in the vehicle entertainment and work system. LG designed the innovative HMI service platform to develop the monetization of its new digital services.

The infotainment systems will also integrate a virtual personal assistant technology created by LG in connection with Microsoft’s virtual assistant solution accelerator. Car manufacturers’ virtual assistants will also assist in providing various connected car services to users, greatly enhancing their experiences.

General Manager of Automotive Industry at Microsoft Corp. Sanjay Ravi stated that LG fosters innovation and provides the consumers with quality services by nurturing its digital capabilities and data-driven culture.

Head of Automotive & Business Solutions Center at LG Electronics and senior vice president Dr. Lee Sang-yong said that Microsoft’s complementary technologies would create synergy with LG’s systems, advancing, and driving competitiveness and digital transformation of the B2B solutions.
