China’s Huawei, the largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer, is setting its eye on dominating the television industry as well. To accomplish this goal, the company is reportedly aiming to overtake Samsung and LG as a leader in the global TV market. Analysts see the move as the company’s attempt to further diversify amidst the stagnating smartphone industry.
Huawei’s Honor TV would be the company’s flagship television. It will be powered by the Huawei’s recently announced, android platform competitor, Harmony OS. The device will implement and internet-of-things (IoT) technology to allow it to communicate with other devices.
The telecommunication company plans to leverage its expansion on its existing global distribution platforms. It would, however, have to face Samsung, LG, and Sony’s already established names in the TV industry.
Another challenge to the goal of global dominance would be the United States trade restrictions that the latter has imposed on Chinese goods. This restriction also motivated Huawei to create the Harmony OS as an answer to Google’s Android.
What Are The TV’s Capabilities?
Two variants of the television will be available to consumers. One is price tagged at 3,799 yuan ($539) and the other at 4,799 yuan. The Honor Vision TV and Vision TV Pro will be equipped with a 55-inch display. It will also have a 4K resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. The TVs processors would be a 28mm-based Honghu 818 quad-core intelligent chipset with two Cortex-A53, two Cortex-A53 cores, and 600MHz Mali-G51MP4 GPU. Both variants will have 2GB of RAM. Honor Vision TV will have 16 GB of storage while the Pro variant will have 32GB of storage.
The Chinese company initially announced the scheduled release of the TV in mainland China during China’s Huawei Developer Conference 2019. This led to speculations that the company is will be focusing on customers in its home court before fully expanding to outside markets. Â A spokesperson from Honor, however, told The Mobile Indian that the company would be introducing the gadget on the Indian market soon.
Honor’s spokesperson said, “Since it is based on a new operating system, we are currently testing it out. Once the testing is concluded, we will launch the Smart TV in India.
