KT Corporation, LG Electronics Inc., and Vodafone Group Services Limited have recently joined Sisvel‘s Cellular IoT patent pool, strengthening the program’s role as a comprehensive licensing solution for manufacturers of IoT cellular devices. This marks an important expansion of the pool, which aims to simplify access to essential patents for developing and deploying IoT technology.
By joining the patent consortium, these companies contribute to a unified platform that offers a one-stop licensing solution for IoT device makers. The addition of KT Corporation, LG Electronics, and Vodafone highlights the growing industry support for collaborative approaches in managing intellectual property, enabling smoother innovation and growth in the cellular IoT sector.
With the inclusion of KT Corporation, LG Electronics, and Vodafone, more than 50% of all standard essential patents (SEPs) for Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) and LTE-M standards are now accessible through a single license from Sisvel. The program offers a streamlined solution for companies, enabling them to access 34 distinct patent portfolios in a quick and cost-effective manner, with fees starting as low as $0.08 per device.
The Sisvel Cellular IoT patent pool brings together a diverse group of patent holders across the telecommunications and IoT sectors, including mobile infrastructure providers, product and component manufacturers, and network operators.Â
Sven Torringer, manager of the Sisvel Cellular IoT program, welcomed the new members, stating, “We are proud to have LG Electronics, KT Corporation, and Vodafone join us. Their participation significantly enhances the patent coverage available through our pool.” Torringer emphasized that the goal from the outset has been to provide device makers with predictable and fair access to essential technologies while ensuring innovators receive appropriate returns.
The recent additions, along with a new agreement with Nordic Semiconductor, highlight the increasing industry support for Sisvel’s licensing approach. As the cellular IoT landscape continues to evolve, the expanded patent pool offers a clear path forward, balancing the needs of technology implementers with those of patent owners.
Sisvel supports collaboration, creativity, and efficiency, aiming to bridge the gap between patent owners and those who seek to utilize their technologies. In a rapidly changing and complex marketplace, Sisvel’s core principle is to create a fair environment by developing and implementing flexible, accessible solutions for commercializing patents.
The company believes that such an approach not only benefits patent holders but also supports businesses seeking to access essential technologies, ensuring both parties can thrive in an evolving technological landscape. Sisvel’s focus on equitable licensing aims to streamline market access and promote innovation across the cellular IoT ecosystem.
