Samsung Electronics has unveiled its latest addition to the TV market with the launch of a 114-inch Micro LED TV in South Korea. Priced at $132,000, this ultra-premium model will cater to consumers seeking larger-than-life viewing experiences, aligning with the current trend favoring bigger screens.

The 114-inch Micro LED TV joins Samsung’s existing lineup, which includes 89-inch and 101-inch models, offering consumers a wider range of size options to choose from. With this release, Samsung aims to capitalize on the growing demand for larger displays in the ultra-premium TV segment.

Micro LED technology offers several advantages over traditional LCD, OLED, and LED displays. Each Micro LED pixel can generate its own light and color, eliminating the need for a backlight and color filter. This results in superior picture quality, with perfect blacks, vibrant colors, and wide viewingangles.

Additionally, Micro LED displays do not suffer from burn-in issues commonly associated with OLED TVs, making them an attractive option for consumers seeking long-lasting performance.

Samsung’s 114-inch Micro LED TV has high brightness, sharp contrast, and exceptional color accuracy. Despite its ultra-premium pricing, Samsung aims to lead the ultra-premium TV market by offering customers a display that combines top-notch technology with ultrahigh display quality.

Samsung Electronics Korea’s Managing Director, Kang Jin-seon, emphasized that Micro LED represents the pinnacle of display technology, encompassing the best features of all TVs currently available in the market. By expanding options for consumers who appreciate high-definition displays, Samsung aims to dominate the ultra-premium TV market.

In March, Samsung unveiled a range of Micro LED TVs in China, following earlier launches in the U.S., the Middle East, and Europe, strategically targeting affluent consumers in those regions.

The global micro-LED market is forecasted to witness significant growth, with projections indicating a substantial increase in market value by 2026, driven by the rising adoption of smart devices and wearables.

Since 2013, Korea has maintained a leading position in micro LED technology, with the highest number of patents registered across major patent offices worldwide, including Korea, the U.S., China, the European Union, and Japan.

However, China has remained a strong competitor to Korea in this field. In January, TCL, a prominent Chinese electronics company showcasing its technological capabilities, unveiled a massive 163-inch micro LED TV at CES 2024.

Additionally, Chinese display manufacturer BOE is currently constructing a new factory in China, slated to commence production by the year’s end, further solidifying China’s presence in the micro-LED market.

Despite Korea’s longstanding dominance in micro LED technology, China’s advancements in this field indicate a shifting landscape. As both countries continue to invest heavily in research and development, the competition between Korea and China in the micro LED sector is expected to intensify in the coming years.
