KT and Novatek Join Forces for Next-Gen Logistics Automation Platform

On Wednesday, South Korean telecommunications company KT Corp. revealed that it has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Novatek, a domestic firm specializing in robot technology-driven logistics automation and security. The agreement shall facilitate joint research efforts to develop a logistics automation platform.

Under the partnership, KT and Novatek will collaborate on creating an on-premise logistics automation system tailored for the domestic manufacturing and warehouse sectors. The initiative seeks to extend the platform’s reach to international markets for the companies’ shared vision for innovation in the logistics industry.

KT and Novatek have collaborated through a business agreement to advance the logistics robot platform business. Their joint efforts will focus on developing a robot-driven logistics automation platform, integrating logistics automation and robot control systems, and creating a heterogeneous multi-robot management system.

Furthermore, the partnership aims to streamline logistics processes by developing end-to-end automation solutions linked to warehouse management and control systems. With a keen eye on domestic and global markets, KT and Novatek plan to conduct demonstration projects to expedite their entry into these sectors.

Novatek, a market player in logistics automation systems utilizing robots, has delivered innovative solutions to enhance safety and productivity across industrial sites. Their expertise spans various locations, including Hyundai Motor Company’s plants and Hanwha Vision’s Chicago warehouse.

With the signing of the agreement, KT and Novatek are set to enter the domestic manufacturing and warehouse logistics market with a jointly developed on-premise logistics automation system. They aim to enhance robot control systems, AI simulator capabilities, and cloud infrastructure to penetrate overseas markets effectively. Additionally, the collaboration will establish logistics robot test fields at both the KT Research and Development Center and the Novatek Logistics Center.

Lee Sang-ho, the Managing Director of KT’s Robot Business Division, shared views on collaborating with Novatek, emphasizing the complementary expertise brought by both companies. He highlighted Novatek’s track record in constructing logistics robot control systems for major corporations like Hyundai Motor Company and Hanwha Vision, alongside KT’s proficiency in service robot control and analysis and AICT (AI+ICT) capabilities.

Sang-ho anticipates synergies between the two entities, envisioning the development of a logistics automation business model that extends beyond domestic borders to global markets.

Novatek’s CEO, Song Dong-seok, also expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration in the logistics automation sector with KT. Dong-seok emphasized their joint commitment to enhancing company value through the development and provision of logistics platform technologies.

The collaboration between KT and Novatek aims to diversify the logistics robot portfolio, introducing specialized solutions such as unmanned forklifts, picking robots, and low-floor robots optimized for various logistics automation processes.

Additionally, both companies intend to establish logistics robot test fields at KT’s Research and Development Center and Novatek Logistics Center, facilitating rigorous testing and validation of their innovative solutions before market deployment.
