Hyundai Motor has revealed its inaugural high-performance electric vehicle, the IONIQ 5 N, an N sport variant of its existing IONIQ 5 crossover SUV. This introduction is Hyundai’s entrance into the electric performance segment. The IONIQ 5 N is expected to be available at Hyundai dealerships starting March 2024.
The Ioniq 5 N features a 641 horsepower (478 kW) output potential facilitated by a two-stage inverter and an 84-kWh battery. The company views it as a performance-oriented electric vehicle. Hyundai has integrated various features to enhance driving, including battery preconditioning, brake regeneration, drift optimization, torque distribution, and track-ready settings.
The IONIQ 5 N, Hyundai’s plan for high-performance electric vehicles, is supported by two electric motors generating a combined 609 horsepower capable of reaching 21,000 rpm. Activating the N Grin Boost mode elevates the power output to 650 horsepower, facilitating a swift 0-100kph acceleration in a claimed time of 3.4 seconds and achieving a top speed of 260kph. The N Grin Boost mode, a distinctive feature, offers a burst of maximum acceleration by providing the full power output for a duration of 10 seconds.
José Muñoz, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor North America, emphasized the importance of Hyundai N as a driving force behind technological advancements within the company. He expressed confidence in the IONIQ 5 N’s ability to impress both existing Hyundai customers and new buyers with its exceptional performance and technological innovations.
In response to the growing demand for electric vehicles (EVs), Hyundai Motor Company, established in 1967, introduced the IONIQ 5 midsize crossover in 2021. This model, built on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), aimed to capitalize on the robust global interest in EVs. Hyundai has extended its electrified portfolio with the recent unveiling of the IONIQ 5 N, the company’s inaugural high-performance electric vehicle (EV) under the N brand.
Hyundai expects the IONIQ 5 N to achieve an electronically limited top speed of 162 mph (260.7 km/h), aligning with the performance-oriented ethos of the N brand. However, the automaker has yet to disclose the estimated range for this high-performance electric vehicle.
The IONIQ 5 N encapsulates Hyundai’s vision of delivering environmentally friendly vehicles and high-performance electric options to meet the diverse needs of the modern automotive landscape.
