South Korean automotive manufacturer Kia announced their EV and mobility solution-focused transition plans with the updated ‘Plan S’ strategy. At the 2021 CEO Investor Day digital event, Kia Corporation’s President and CEO, Song Ho-sung, presented the company’s long-term plans. “Kia is being reborn in 2021 with a new logo, new design, and new corporate name,” said Kia President Song. “Kia will transform into a brand that excites and inspires customers with innovative mobility experiences.” Last year, Kia unveiled Plan S, the company’s business strategy to advance its mobility services and electrification. In line with the changing market environment and needs, the automaker updated its Plan S with three core pillars.

Three Core Pillars of Kia’s Plan S

The three pillars of the renewed Plan S include advancing EV transition, strengthening PBV business, and expanding future mobility services. With an annual sales target of 1.6 million green vehicles by 2030, Kia is preemptively responding to EV market demands. This year, Kia will launch its first dedicated EV and add eleven new EV models to its lineup by 2026. Additionally, the company will adhere to the E-GMP platform and incorporate it into their future EVs, including seven dedicated models and four derivative models.

In 2022, Kia will develop and introduce its first specialized purpose-built vehicle (PBV) in response to market needs. Along with this goal, Kia aims for an annual PBV sale of 1 million units by 2030. Through collaborating with other companies, Kia will also expand its other services such as unmanned delivery and e-commerce platforms. “Our accumulated experience, when connected with various partnerships, will enable us to offer competitive PBV solutions and services,” added Song.

Following the recent global increase of environmental regulations, Kia will boost their green mobility solutions by providing various services. According to Song, “Kia is planning to launch an EV-based service that combines subscription and sharing services.” Currently, the automaker has plans to build on their overseas car-sharing service Wible, with Wible Office and Wible Mass. Aside from Wible, Kia will also expand its car user service KiaMobility to European markets. “Kia is continuously developing technology and accumulating capabilities in next-generation core businesses, namely autonomous driving, fuel cell, and urban air mobility,” concluded Song.
