LUXROBO, a leading South Korean-based education technology (edtech) startup, announced that it would launch its coding education kit “Designer Kit Set” designed for homeschooling in the North American market next month.

Established in 2014 by founder SangHun-Oh, LUXROBO specializes in coding edtech services in South Korea. The company developed a semiconductor operating system (OS) that could control robots in an organic and stable way. In 2019, LUXROBO won the CES Innovation Award for Robotics and the Edutech Business Model grand prize from the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy.

The Designer Kit Set

LUXROBO developed the Designer Kit Set at its R&D center following schools’ challenges during the coronavirus pandemic. The innovative homeschooling product covers up to 10 activities, allowing users to learn the basics of engineering and coding. Eight types of coding and two kinds of unplugged activities would help children express their creativity and develop their own coding output.

The Designer Kit Set would comprise a Designer Kit, a Making Pack, and a Coding Sketch. LUXROBO would release the kit on the North American e-commerce platform eBay and Shopify for approximately 250,000 won ($220).

The edtech startup’s Designer Kit Set also allows children to code from scratch on iOS and Android mobile operating systems. This is done through LUXROBO’s modular robotics platform called “MODI.”

MODI: LUXROBO’s Modular Coding Education Kit

LUXROBO developed MODI as an industry-recognized modular coding education kit for creating and connecting do-it-yourself robotics. The hardware platform consists of 21 input, output, and setup modules, each with a specific function and software coding tools.

MODI allows learners and users to acquire key concepts in coding and computer science in an exciting and engaging way. The modular education kit provides challenges for users to develop their critical and computational thinking skills through hands-on project-based activities.

In combination with a STEAM curriculum, 3D printing, and LEGO, MODI allows users to intuitively recognize each module’s function. Additionally, MODI’s unexposed circuit board provides the added value of familiarity and safety, making it suitable for children.
