Samsung Electronics, in collaboration with Rescale, launched on Thursday its “Samsung Advanced Foundry Ecosystem (SAFE™) Cloud Design Platform (CDP)” for small homegrown fabless semiconductor companies. Samsung hopes the system would better foster South Korea’s chip industry.

Rescale Inc., founded in 2011, is a leader in high-performance computing (HPC) solutions provider, with industry-leading partners such as Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Oracle.

Samsung foundry’s first SAFE™ Cloud Design Platform provides a virtual environment for chip design in the cloud. Customers could access the platform via the cloud, allowing immediate use of various electronic design automation (EDA) tools from several vendors such as Cadence and Ansys, Siemens business and Synopsys, and Mentor.

The company stated that the Cloud Design Platform eases the customer’s problems in creating its server frameworks. Customers can enjoy the use of SAFE that involves intellectual property (IP), cloud system, electronic design automation (EDA), and other design assistance extended by reliable partners.

Samsung said that one of its partners in South Korea, specifically Gaonchips, previously tried the SAFE CDP platform on its automotive project through Cadence’s Innovus Application and positively reduced the design running time by 30 percent relative to its present system process.

SAFE Ecosystem

Jae-hong Park, executive vice president of Foundry Design Platform Development at Samsung Electronics, stated that the company continuously strives to perform its commitment to strengthening the SAFE system. The company would cooperate with its SAFE partners diligently in creating new and efficient programs that would support user-friendly designs for customers. The company believed that its partnership with Rescale would benefit the local fabless industries through an efficient cloud-based design system.

Joris Port, CEO, and founder of Rescale said that the company unites with Samsung’s goal of a global design cloud platform that would capably support a wide range of SAFE ecosystem technologies and services for EDA clients worldwide.

Samsung revealed last April that its support plan for the system chip industry would be pushed through and promised to work with local fabless companies. Presently, the company maintains many projects involving chip design solutions and wafer programs.

Samsung would start mass-producing its products with local fabless firms by the end of this year.
