Coupang on Wednesday introduced the industry’s first Automotive Around View Monitoring system in all its delivery vehicles, enhancing Coupang men’s safety.

The South Korean e-commerce giant said that the monitoring camera system improves driving safety in narrow streets. The delivery vehicles installed with a 360-degree exterior view helps staff to execute complex maneuvers. The vehicle’s dashboard possesses a screen displaying a live-feed of the environment.

“Around View Camera” system

Four cameras mounted underneath the outside mirrors provide an exterior view of the vehicle’s environment. The new optical information allows Coupang men to identify events as they happen around a car.

Coupang expects the “Around View Camera” system to prevent road safety accidents that mostly occur in narrow streets with blind spots, driving in parking spaces, and stopping. The company said it would accomplish installing the new system in all delivery vehicles by July this year.

The company took many measures to ensure the safety of its employees. Coupang conducted various safety training lessons for all Coupang men. The company required all vehicles to have front and rear sensors, park brake alarm, and assistance side mirrors, also a first in the industry.

The largest online retailer in South Korea also operates transmission vehicles helping drivers to reduce leg fatigue.

Together with Coupang’s various safety measures, the company is the first in the business to comply with the five-day workweek system. The workweek system limits directly hired delivery staff’s working hours to 52 hours per week.

Coupang’s employee and labor relations chief, Ko Myung-ju, said that the company always made efforts so it could protect its Coupang men by taking steps to prevent possible accidents during vehicle operation.

Sam Ko, Coupang’s Representative Director, stated the company would lead the way in safer delivery in line with the revision of the Road Safety Act, also known as the “Min-sik Law.”
