Kakao Prepares to Launch AI-Enhanced Kakao Work 2.0 for Smarter Workplace Management

Kakao Corp. plans to launch an upgraded version of its workplace communication platform, Kakao Work 2.0, early next year, featuring a new artificial intelligence (AI) assistant. Developed by Kakao’s IT subsidiary, dktechin, the platform comes following dktechin’s acquisition of Kakao Enterprise’s non-cloud division in March.

Kakao Work 2.0 will function more like a personal assistant, moving beyond the standard features of the existing Kakao Work, such as email, schedule management, video conferencing, and surveys. The AI agent will provide tailored briefings, suggest optimized work routes, and highlight tasks to complete, all based on real-time user data.

Before the official launch of Kakao Work 2.0, dktechin plans a major update to the existing platform in the fourth quarter of this year. This update will introduce a range of new features, including tools for human resources and task management, such as attendance tracking, employee evaluations, certificate issuance, and project management. It will also add administrative functions like intranet services, electronic approvals, expense management, and space reservations, along with daily support tools for parking, medical expenses, meal allowances, and educational support.

The development of Kakao Work 2.0 is one of the first significant projects undertaken by dktechin after it absorbed Kakao Enterprise’s non-cloud division earlier this year. The new AI-powered communication platform aims to leverage advanced AI technologies and solutions from both companies, positioning itself as a versatile tool for modern workplace management.

Following the update, the new platform will officially launch in the first quarter of next year, featuring a real-time conversational AI assistant tentatively named “worky.” Unlike existing notification bots that offer one-way information, “worky” will enable interactive conversations with users, providing a more dynamic and engaging experience.

Kakao Work 2.0 is designed to evolve into a more proactive virtual assistant, moving beyond its predecessor’s traditional collaboration tools. The AI agent will offer personalized briefings based on real-time user information, optimize workflows and generate to-do lists tailored to individual needs.

For instance, if a user is set to begin a three-day vacation tomorrow, “worky” will notify them of two pending approval files from the previous day and update them on the current status of an ongoing report. The AI assistant will also suggest the optimal times for reminders, utilize integrated search and translation tools, and offer a spell and grammar checker for effective communication.

Moreover, “worky” will feature a message summary function that lets users quickly catch up on messages directed at them after a meeting, streamlining their communication process. It aims to redefine workplace collaboration by offering features that go beyond the capabilities of existing tools in the market.
