Luxury carmaker Ferrari has teamed up with South Korea’s SK On to work on batteries for its future electric vehicle. The collaboration entails sharing expertise to advance cell technology, with a memorandum of understanding already in place.

This strategic partnership aims to drive innovation in battery cell technology, fostering technological collaboration and the exchange of insights between the two entities.

The partnership between Ferrari and SK On shows a concerted effort to explore new possibilities and potential solutions in advancing cell technology. Ferrari’s CEO Benedetto Vigna, along with Ferrari’s R&D Officer Ernesto Lasalandra, recently met with SK On’s CEO Lee Seok-hee to formalize the On’s movement.

Ferrari, renowned for its iconic 12-cylinder engines, is making a strategic move into the electric vehicle market under the leadership of CEO Benedetto Vigna. The company has ambitious plans to introduce its inaugural fully electric car by the fourth quarter of next year and is in the process of constructing a new EV factory in northern Italy, set to be completed by June.

As Ferrari’s exclusive battery supplier, SK On has played a crucial role in powering the marque’s flagship models since 2019, starting with the SF90 and its convertible variant, the SF90 Spider. This partnership has been instrumental in Ferrari’s foray into the electric vehicle market.

Notably, SK On’s batteries have also fueled the 296 GTB and the 296 GTSOn’sg-in hybrid electric vehicles launched in subsequent years, supporting the collaborative partnership between the two entities in driving forward advancements in battery technology.

Lee Seok-hee, CEO of SK On, expressed about joining Ferrari’s journey towards electrification, focusing on the Ferrari’stion between the two companies to deliver novel customer experiences and values. Similarly, Benedetto Vigna, CEO of Ferrari, highlighted the power of collaboration in driving mutual progress and innovation.

SK On, headquartered in Seoul, has been developing innovative battery technologies, following the electric vehicle market and evolving technological trends.

Notably, last year witnessed the introduction of the limited-edition SF90 XX Stradale and SF90 XX Spider, showcasing Ferrari’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of performance. This ongoing collaboration between Ferrari and SK On ensures their collective endeavor to lead the global sports car market through innovation and shared expertise.
