NHN Cloud, the joint representatives Baek Do-min and Kim Dong-hoon, hereinafter referred to as NHN Cloud, has disclosed the comprehensive results of its vertical cloud solution, ‘NHN AppGuard,’ for the past year.
NHN AppGuard,’ developed by NHN Cloud, is a mobile app protection solution that operates on a cloud-based platform, providing detection of malicious activities and security threat response services for Android and iOS mobile applications. Leveraging the security expertise accumulated by NHN Group in various business sectors, including gaming and payments, it delivers specialized mobile protection services.
While providing the NHN AppGuard service, NHN Cloud has achieved significant results, including revenue growth in the Japanese gaming market, diversification of clients in non-gaming sectors such as fintech and entertainment, and strengthening the lineup of security services for app launches with both pre-and post-launch security measures.
Firstly, NHN Cloud has provided NHN AppGuard with numerous games in the Japanese market, leading to a 200% increase in revenue compared to the previous year. As the Japanese in-game item trading market (RMT) is experiencing rapid growth, the number of abuses (malicious activities) has also increased. Consequently, clients seeking NHN AppGuard, known for its outstanding performance and robust gaming references, have significantly expanded. Various genres of Japanese games, including NHN Playart’s 3v3 battle game ‘Compass,’ Level5’s ‘Yo-Kai Watch Puni Puni,’ Litmus’s ‘Jailbreak,’ mobile sports games, and popular anime-based puzzle games, have adopted NHN AppGuard to continue their services.
In addition, NHN Cloud has successfully diversified its client base by supplying NHN AppGuard to various apps in different industries, including fintech and entertainment, both domestically and internationally. Key newly adopted apps include ‘Travel Wallet,’ providing convenient foreign exchange and overseas payment services, mobile POS solution ‘PayHere,’ mileage integration platform ‘Mileverse,’ and simple budgeting app ‘U Planner,’ all of which are fintech solutions. Moreover, NHN AppGuard has been supplied to the domestic leading reading subscription service ‘Millie’s Library,’ a dedicated app for one of Korea’s top four travel agencies ‘Yellow Balloon,’ and a child learning English app ‘AI PengTalk.’ Non-gaming clients account for 45% of the total.
NHN Cloud’s Co-CEO, Kim Dong-hoon, expressed, ‘Continuously enhancing the NHN AppGuard service has enabled us to expand our business beyond domestic game companies to international and non-gaming sectors, broadening the scope of our business and extending our service range.’ He further stated, ‘In 2024, we hope to stand as a leading solution in the mobile app security industry, ensuring the security of even more mobile apps.
Meanwhile, NHN Cloud has strengthened NHN AppGuard as a comprehensive mobile app security solution by incorporating security vulnerability diagnosis services and server anomaly detection services. To further evolve into a solution covering attack prevention from the initial stages to post-incident response, the company has entered into a partnership agreement with the domestic security vulnerability diagnosis firm ‘SecureRoot.’ This collaboration aims to introduce a service that diagnoses security vulnerabilities before launching app services, providing recommendations for improvements. Additionally, NHN Cloud is currently in the process of developing a service capable of detecting and blocking abnormal data records on servers.
