South Korea’s tech leaders, Naver Corp. and Samsung Electronics Co., are joining the Korean Govt for an upcoming AI safety summit set to take place in the United Kingdom next month. The collaboration is a global initiative to address potential AI risks and pushes South Korea’s active role in technological advancements to enhance AI safety worldwide.

The event will take place at Bletchley Park in Buckinghamshire. The summit, which focuses on AI safety, serves as a platform for Naver and Samsung to actively participate in discussions and strategies to strengthen international cooperation and understanding in AI technology.

Science and ICT Minister Lee Jong-ho, Cheun Kyung-whoon, the Chief Technology Officer of Samsung Electronics’ Device eXperience Division and President of Samsung Research, and Ha Jung-woo, the leader of the Naver Cloud Innovation Center, have received invitations from the British government to attend the AI safety summit.

The upcoming summit is expected to serve as a platform for exchanging perspectives among officials from the Group of Seven (G-7) countries, esteemed AI company executives, and distinguished AI experts. The primary focus of this gathering will be to deliberate on the prospective risks associated with AI technologies and to devise robust strategies to address them collectively.

The G-7 countries, consisting of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the European Union, will unite at this summit to promote international cooperation and knowledge sharing in the quest for AI safety.

The forthcoming summit gains further prominence as it will draw the participation of key figures, including U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Demis Hassabis, CEO of Alphabet’s distinguished AI-focused subsidiary, DeepMind.

These distinguished personalities are expected to provide authoritative insights into the discussions, given their extensive experience and pivotal roles in shaping the course of AI technologies. The summit, taking place over two days, will be a critical forum for sharing perspectives on AI safety and engaging in conversations to ensure the responsible development and deployment of AI technologies on a global scale.
