Global API Standardization Gets a Push with SK Telecom–Aduna Partnership
The agreement leverages the CAMARA open-source project to streamline network function integration and enable next-generation telecom innovation.

South Korean telecom leader SK Telecom Co. Ltd. has joined forces with Aduna, a global aggregator of network APIs, to increase developer access to standardized telecom APIs and promote global commercial adoption. Through SK Telecom’s subsidiary SK Telink, the companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on September 8, signaling a strategic push toward programmable telecom capabilities.

The collaboration builds on the CAMARA open-source project, which simplifies how developers interact with network functions. By merging Aduna’s unified integration platform with SK Telecom’s infrastructure and digital expertise, the partnership seeks to accelerate API adoption, strengthen Korea’s role in the global network API ecosystem, and facilitate seamless deployment of advanced programmable telecom services.

Focus on Security and Identity Services

The partnership will first focus on identity and security-focused applications, including Know Your Customer (KYC), SIM Swap detection, and Number Verification. These functions play a key role in enabling secure digital onboarding, preventing fraud, and strengthening digital trust across industries such as banking, fintech, and enterprise services.

By aligning their strengths, SK Telink and Aduna aim to reduce complexity for developers and lower barriers to innovation, allowing enterprises to embed connectivity intelligence efficiently and explore new opportunities in digital security, fintech, and enterprise services.

Strategic Significance

Anthony Bartolo, CEO of Aduna, emphasized the importance of the partnership, stating that security-focused APIs like Number Verification and SIM Swap are among the most urgent needs for enterprises today. He added that combining Aduna’s global aggregation platform with SK Telecom’s advanced infrastructure will accelerate innovation and reinforce digital trust across Asia and beyond.

“By working with SK telink and SK Telecom, we are combining our global aggregation platform with one of the industry’s most advanced operators to strengthen digital trust and accelerate innovation across Asia and beyond,” Bartolo said.

The deal also marks a significant step in expanding Aduna’s footprint across Asia, highlighting how interoperable, carrier-grade APIs can drive the digital economy and lay the groundwork for continued innovation in one of the world’s most developed telecom markets.

SK Telecom’s Role in Programmable Networks

SK Telecom, South Korea’s leading ICT company, is pursuing its “AI & Digital Infrastructure” strategy, focusing on 5G/6G, AI, cloud, and quantum technologies. The company has expanded into mobility, media, and enterprise digital transformation, leveraging programmable network capabilities to support next-generation services and the broader digital ecosystem.

Its subsidiary SK Telink leads API commercialization, collaborating with global partners to make network programmability widely accessible. Through this collaboration, SK Telecom can accelerate standardized API deployment and create scalable frameworks for global integration.

Aduna’s Global API Aggregation

Aduna aggregates APIs from major telecom operators worldwide, including AT&T, Bharti Airtel, Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Singtel, Telefonica, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Vodafone, alongside Ericsson. By consolidating APIs under the CAMARA open-source framework, Aduna provides a unified platform that simplifies integration, fosters collaboration, and drives innovation in programmable telecom services.

With support from top operators, Aduna’s platform reduces fragmentation in telecom APIs, enabling developers to create solutions faster while maintaining cross-network compatibility. SK Telecom’s participation strengthens Korea’s influence in shaping global standards.

Implications for the Telecom Ecosystem

The SK Telecom–Aduna partnership highlights several industry trends:

  • Enterprise-Centric Approach: Prioritizing security and identity APIs reflects the growing alignment of telecom services with enterprise requirements.
  • Programmable Network Expansion: APIs are emerging as critical tools for delivering programmable network capabilities and fostering innovation.
  • Global Standardization: Cross-operator cooperation encourages interoperable standards, reducing silos and accelerating API commercialization.
  • Strategic Positioning in Asia: SK Telecom strengthens its regional leadership while Aduna increases its footprint in a technologically advanced market.

By focusing on developer access, enterprise security, and standardized APIs, the partnership lays the foundation for a more interconnected and programmable global telecom ecosystem.

Conclusion

The collaboration between SK Telecom and Aduna represents a strategic step toward integrating Korea into the global network API ecosystem. By emphasizing enterprise security, standardization, and cross-operator collaboration, the partnership demonstrates how telecom operators can drive digital innovation and maintain leadership in an increasingly programmable network landscape.
