LG CNS announced on the 13th that it has completed the construction of an “Smart Platform for Advanced Unmanned Agricultural Production Demonstration Complex” in Naju, Jeollanam-do, and has started full-scale service. The new AI-powered smart farm utilizes satellite imagery to detect crop diseases and recommend treatment strategies.

As a leading information technology service company, LG CNS has developed this platform to enhance smart farming in Naju, South Jeolla Province. The system leverages artificial intelligence to provide farmers with precise and timely insights, aiming to improve crop yields and overall agricultural efficiency.

Since 2022, Jeollanam-do and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs have been promoting the “Smart Platform for Advanced Unmanned Agricultural Production Demonstration Complex” project to create a smart farm on a 543,000㎡ field located in Bannam-myeon, Naju. LG CNS has played a crucial role by implementing the platform hat acts as the brain of this expansive smart farm, integrating various high-tech systems.

The project covers an area roughly the size of 76 soccer fields and leverages AI and IoT technologies to operate unmanned tractors and rice transplanters. It aims to enhance productivity and efficiency in farming. Built on the LG CNS’s “CityHub” platform, the agricultural intelligence integrates the IoT platform “InfioT” for data collection.

Farmers now have access to three key services: intelligent data-based services, yield and price forecasting, and unmanned machinery control. By interconnecting these systems, the platform streamlines every aspect of farming, from crop management to yield optimization, making it a prototype for future smart farms.

The intelligent platform implemented by LG CNS in Naju analyzes soil conditions to determine the optimal types and quantities of fertilizer needed. It also uses weather data for timely irrigation ensuring its volume with efficient water usage. Additionally, the platform employs satellite imagery to analyze vegetation indexes, identify pest infestations and recommend appropriate control measures.

The system predicts crop yields and prices by leveraging data from drones, CCTV, and weather information, providing farmers with crucial insights. The platform’s AI-driven services offer tailored farming guidelines by analyzing critical agricultural data, such as soil conditions, weather, and pest occurrences. It is expected to help minimize crop damage by delivering predictive alerts, diagnoses, and recommendations for pest control.

To further support farmers, LG CNS has introduced the Digital Scarecrow service, which utilizes lasers and frequencies to deter birds and animals that can damage crops. The system ensures optimal scheduling efficiency and continuous monitoring by enabling autonomous control of farm machineries, such as tractors, drones, and transplanters.
