South Korea’s top telecommunications companies are gearing up to present their latest artificial intelligence (AI) technology advancements at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024. SK Telecom and KT have revealed their plans to showcase AI technologies at the event, which is scheduled to kick off on February 26 in Barcelona, Spain.
According to the Korea Information and Communication Technology Industry Association (KICTA), South Korea is set to have a strong presence at MWC 2024, with 165 companies from the country participating in the event. Ranking fifth in terms of the number of participants, South Korea will be a key contributor to be showcased during the four-day exhibition.
At MWC Barcelona 2024, SK Telecom’s exhibition space will span 992 square meters, focusing on AI technologies in the telecom landscape. Under the theme “The Beginning of New Changes, the Inflection Point of AI,” SK Telecom will demonstrate AI-driven innovations to revolutionize various aspects of telecommunications services. Among the highlights are AI-powered call centers and virtual agents leveraging the telco-specific language model developed by SK Telecom.
SK Telecom CEO Ryu Young-sang will personally attend the event to explore potential collaborations with global partners and further discuss the establishment of the ‘Global Telco AI Alliance’ with international telecom firms.
Additionally, the exhibition will feature innovations such as the Litmus Plus system for population data analysis, AI quantum camera enhancements applicable in various sectors like robotics and healthcare, and the Excalibur pet AI diagnostic aid service. SK Telecom will also unveil AI data center solutions, including liquid cooling technology, AI-driven network infrastructure, and an immersive Urban Air Mobility (UAM) experience for virtual interaction.
KT Corp. is set to showcase its next-generation network technologies and AI innovations at the upcoming Mobile World Congress. KT CEO Kim Young-shub, also a board member of GSMA, will attend the event to engage in discussions with global telecom companies and address pertinent industry issues.
The company plans to highlight the utilization of super-large AI, including AI semiconductors featuring large language models (LLM) and Sovereign AI, emphasizing data sovereignty.
Organizing its exhibition space into two distinct zones, KT will present its technological advancements under the theme “Digital Innovation Partner KT Creating the Future.”
In the Next 5G zone, visitors can explore various network-related services and programs, including an Urban Air Mobility (UAM) experience and an AI air traffic management system. Additionally, the zone will feature demonstrations of open network API technology and an engineering platform for high-performance computing. In the AI Life zone, KT will showcase the diverse applications of its LLM model, along with its AI chip and sovereign AI technology built upon its hyper-scale AI foundation model, Mi:dm.
LG Uplus Corp. has decided not to have its exhibition booth at the Mobile World Congress in 2024. Instead, the company will send its CEO, Hwang Hyeon-sik, and several senior executives to the event to engage in discussions and explore collaboration opportunities with major partners such as Google LLC, Amazon Web Services, Inc (AWS), and other overseas telecom companies.
With a theme of “Future First,” the MWC 2024, organized by the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSMA), is the largest mobile telecommunications exhibition worldwide. With an anticipated participation of more than 2,400 companies representing over 200 countries, the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 aims to be a global gathering, attracting an estimated 100,000 visitors.
