SK Telecom, South Korea’s largest mobile carrier, and gaming powerhouse Krafton have jointly introduced three open-source language models designed specifically for inference tasks such as math problem-solving and code generation.

The newly released models are optimized for tasks that require logical reasoning and programming, making them suitable for developers and researchers in both academic and industrial settings.

The newly introduced models are lightweight language models, each with 7 billion parameters, specifically designed for problem-solving and coding tasks. They incorporate a unique learning technique developed by Krafton that enhances the model’s reasoning and precision. Parameters in AI models generally indicate their scale and complexity—ranging from millions to trillions depending on use cases—with 7 billion marking a balance between performance and efficiency.

Krafton applied its proprietary learning technique to train the models, which helped them reach the AIME 25 benchmark in mathematical reasoning, with their performance in complex problem-solving. It is a widely used measure for mathematical reasoning. This result underlines the model’s strength in tackling complex logic-based problems. Krafton views this achievement as a gateway to further developing AI technologies focused on gaming, particularly in areas like gameplay analysis and tactical decision-making.

The collaboration between SK Telecom and Krafton involved a clear division of responsibilities. While SK Telecom managed the data infrastructure and ensured model stability and integrity, Krafton concentrated on refining the learning process. This joint effort highlights the potential of domain-specific AI development through strategic partnerships between the telecom and gaming sectors.

Krafton introduced a novel method called “answer review learning,” which identifies wrong answers during training and helps the model learn by comparing them with correct solutions. This approach enhances both inference accuracy and learning efficiency, enabling models to perform better in reasoning-intensive tasks such as math and coding.

SK Telecom contributed by building a strong infrastructure that supported data validation and large-scale training. This ensured that the models maintained consistency, stability, and quality throughout development. The collaboration is considered a milestone in Korea’s drive toward developing homegrown AI solutions with practical, real-world applications.

Looking ahead, Krafton plans to use its proprietary learning method to enhance AI technologies for gaming. This includes smarter gameplay analytics, improved decision-making systems, and more immersive user experiences. The company also aims to develop a broader range of language models, contributing to South Korea’s efforts in building AI independence and reducing reliance on foreign technologies.

Both companies are participating in a government-led initiative for developing foundational AI models. SK Telecom is leading the consortium, with Krafton as a key partner. Their joint efforts have passed the initial round of selection in the Ministry of Science and ICT’s national project, signaling strong support for the advancement of Korea’s sovereign AI ecosystem.
