Samsung has officially introduced the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition in South Korea, marking a new addition to its foldable lineup. Set to be released on October 25, this special edition features a distinctive striped back pattern and is available in a single “black shadow” color.

Built from premium metal and glass materials that resemble the Armor Aluminum and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 used in the Galaxy Z Fold 6, this device aims to deliver a sleek yet durable experience.

While the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is visually similar, the Special Edition introduces a lighter, thinner profile with incremental upgrades that enhance user convenience. Samsung highlights that it’s the thinnest and lightest model in its foldable series, likely targeting competition from Chinese brands like Xiaomi.

It features an expansive 8.0-inch main display with a 20:18 aspect ratio, providing the widest screen in the Z Fold lineup. When closed, users have access to a 6.5-inch cover display with a 21:9 ratio, giving the device a compact, bar-style feel.

The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and promises top-tier performance, especially with its 16GB RAM and 512GB storage configuration. However, this model lacks some features that were present in previous models, such as S Pen support and an under-display camera. Samsung also opted to release this device exclusively in a single “Black Shadow” color, complemented by a unique striped back pattern.

The Special Edition is equipped with a 200-megapixel wide-angle camera, a first in the Galaxy Z Fold series, and is designed to capture sharper and more vibrant images and videos. Samsung has also guaranteed long-term software support, promising updates for up to seven years. The device debuts with Android 14-based One UI 6.1.1 and support for future versions, including One UI 7.

Priced at 2,789,600 KRW (approximately $2,024), the device is available exclusively in South Korea, potentially expanding to China later. Purchasers who activate their device on Samsung’s website by year-end will receive discount coupons for other Samsung products, including the Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Watch Ultra, Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, and Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra. Major Korean carriers, SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus, will also offer promotions and discounts on the new foldable.

With global competitors like Xiaomi and Honor releasing thinner foldables — such as Xiaomi’s 9.47mm Mix Fold 4 and Honor’s 9.2mm Magic V3 — Samsung is pushing to further slim down its models to meet consumer demands for portability. However, the company’s domestic focus for the Special Edition remains strategic, with no confirmation yet of a release in markets like India.
