Samsung Launches Galaxy Quantum 5 with Enhanced Quantum Security for South Korea

Samsung has introduced the Galaxy Quantum 5, a distinct variant of the Galaxy A55, tailored specifically for the South Korean market. This model features a sophisticated quantum cryptography security chip from ID Quantique (IDQ), enhancing its online security. Created in partnership with SK Telecom, the Galaxy Quantum 5 is exclusively available through SK Telecom’s network in South Korea.

The Galaxy Quantum 5 combines the features of the Galaxy A55 with enhanced security measures. Integrating the quantum security chip aims to provide heightened protection for users’ data and online activities.

The Galaxy Quantum 5 features a QRNG chip from ID Quantique, the S2Q000. This chip utilizes quantum physics to generate random numbers, enhancing the device’s encryption and security capabilities. The QRNG chip, in conjunction with Samsung Knox, aims to provide superior protection for sensitive data, particularly in banking and payment applications.

While the Quantum 5 integrates this advanced security technology, its core specifications remain consistent with the Galaxy A55. The phone has a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and HDR10+ support. It is powered by the Exynos 1480 processor, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The device runs on Android 14 and supports four major OS updates.

  • The camera system of the Galaxy Quantum 5 includes:
  • A 50MP primary rear camera.
  • A 12MP ultrawide lens.
  • A 5MP macro camera.
  • A 32MP front-facing camera.

New features such as AI Night and improved shooting speeds enhance low-light photography, while the Dual Recording function allows simultaneous recording from both the front and rear cameras. The phone also supports advanced video and photo features like Super HDR and VDIS technology for clearer, more stable images.

The Galaxy Quantum 5 is priced at KRW 618,200 (~$465) and is available in Ice Blue, Awesome Lilac, and Navy. Customers who pre-ordered the device by August 27 and opened an account by September 3 received additional benefits, including 11pay points, a Samsung Silicone Case, and subscriptions to various services. The phone is exclusively available through SK Telecom in South Korea.

The Galaxy Quantum 5 also has an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, an aluminum frame, and glass front and rear panels. It features stereo speakers for an enhanced audio experience.

Yoo Chul-joon, Head of SK Telecom’s Smart Device CT, stated that the Galaxy Quantum 5 represents the latest advancement in the Quantum series, combining premium performance with AI-driven features. He emphasized the company’s goal to provide high security and AI capabilities at a competitive price, ensuring a superior telecommunications experience for customers.
