Samsung Display announced that it would strengthen its gaming industry foothold, actively tapping into the gaming laptop and smartphone market. Recently, the gaming industry and the number of online gamers have been growing exponentially due to the spreading of non-face-to-face culture. Following the pandemic social restrictions, developers are promptly introducing more high-quality gaming devices to address customers’ entertainment needs.

To this end, Samsung Display will supply its organic light-emitting diode display panels to ASUS’s latest gaming smartphone. Earlier, the Taiwanese electronics company unveiled its ROG Phone 5, a premium gaming smartphone that offers elite mobile gaming experiences. Moreover, Samsung Display’s 6.78-inch ‘OLED for gaming’ panel delivers ultra-smooth mobile gaming operations with high-resolution displays and fast frame transitions.

According to Brian Chang, General Manager of ASUS’s Smartphone Business Unit, the ROG Phone 5 is equipped with Samsung’s latest gaming OLED, which is compatible with the highest specification hardware. Chang added that the display gives users outstanding gaming experiences since it features higher refresh rates and faster response time.

Specialized OLED Panels for High-Definition Mobile Gaming

The Samsung Electronics affiliate also stated that its OLED mobile panels offer a 120Hz refresh rate, enabling premium gaming performance. Furthermore, Samsung Display’s latest OLED technology acquired a “Seamless Display” certification from SGS due to its ultra-fast screen resolution. SGS, headquartered in Switzerland, is one of the world’s best inspection, verification, and certification organizations.

Based on SGS’s data, Samsung Display’s OLED gaming screen contains the industry’s highest specifications in two categories. In particular, the OLED mobile display panel features a 0.7mm blur length, while its MPRT (motion picture response time) is less than 11 milliseconds throughout high-speed transmissions.

The new Samsung Display panel also acquired an “Eye Care Display” certification for minimizing blue light emission to 6.5 percent. This technology provides better eye-protection functions, especially to users who play for long periods. Additionally, the OLED panel integrates Adaptive Frequency technology, which optimizes stored power depending on what application the user is operating.

“Our OLED Display has valuable features befitting premium gaming content, such as fast response time and less blue light emissions,” said Lee Ho-Jung, Head of Samsung Display’s Mobile Display Product Planning Team. “Consumers will quickly see that the Samsung ‘OLED for gaming’ experience delivers the most advanced mobile gaming display on the market today.”

In addition to tapping into the mobile gaming market, Samsung Display has expanded its operations to the gaming laptop industry. Since joining the OLED laptop market, the company has provided its 15.6-inch UHD OLED panels to gaming laptop manufacturers. For instance, Samsung Display supplied its OLED panel technologies to Razer Inc., a gaming hardware developer.
