2024 WTA500 Ningbo Tennis Open

On October 20th, the 2024 WTA500 Ningbo Tennis Open wrapped up, marking a significant moment for the city and the sport. The tournament, held at the Ningbo (Yinzhou) Tennis Center, China, from October 14th to 20th, showcased top talent from over 20 countries and regions. It highlighted Ningbo’s growing role as a hub for international coastal sports, as the event was upgraded from WTA250 to WTA500 status this year.

As Ningbo attained the title of becoming the third city in East Asia to host a WTA500 event, Ningbo Yinzhou District Power Supply Company ensured a seamless event in providing reliable power. Using advanced tools like distribution automation systems and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), the company ensured consistent electricity throughout the competition. With its digital twin technology and emergency command platforms, it managed to monitor and control the power grid across three event venues in real time, meeting the rigorous demands of the tournament.

Ningbo Power Supply Company of the State Grid used emergency command and power guarantee platforms, distribution automation systems, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) to ensure a highly reliable power supply for the event. The emergency command and power guarantee platform acts as the “brain” of the power guarantee system, integrating unified supervision, data display, command, and other functions, achieving four major functions: “full coverage of the guarantee range, full-element perception of data, all-round display of information, and full-process control of the power guarantee process.

During the event, the company used the platform’s digital twin technology to build a holographic power grid panorama, realizing real-time monitoring and unified control of the three event venues. At the same time, the company optimized the operation mode of the power grid system, achieving full-area coverage of the distribution automation system function (FA) in the event venues, and installed uninterruptible emergency power supplies (UPS) for important loads such as screens and Hawk-Eye systems.

With the combined efforts of multiple technological measures, the company achieved the “four zeros” power guarantee requirement with only 24 personnel. “The power supply guarantee task this time was tight in time, heavy in tasks, and high in requirements. The more sufficient our preparatory work, the more smoothly the subsequent power guarantee work would go,” said Zhang Lixing, a staff member of the company.
