South Korea’s leading portal operator, Naver Corp., has partnered with car-sharing and mobility service provider SOCAR Inc. By combining their expertise and data, the two companies intend to create AI products optimized for specific services and businesses, utilizing the capabilities of HyperCLOVA X, set to be released in August.

The partnership was formalized by signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at Naver’s second office building in Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do.

The collaboration aims to leverage Naver’s hyper scale artificial intelligence (AI) platform, HyperCLOVA X, to enhance mobility services based on the super-giant artificial intelligence (AI) model, HyperCLOVA X.

The agreement outlines cooperation between Naver and SOCAR to drive innovation in mobility services using HyperCLOVA X, a Large Language Model (LLM) developed by Naver.

Naver’s HyperCLOVA X, the upgraded version of HyperCLOVA launched in 2021, has demonstrated its capability to integrate users’ data and provide more tailored responses. Building on this advancement, SOCAR plans to leverage HyperCLOVA X by integrating its data to enhance the quality of its mobility services.

Naver recently announced its plans to release the beta version of Cue, an advanced generative AI search service, in September. The Korean tech giant has been venturing in AI initiatives through its multiple projects.

Through its recent partnership with SOCAR, Naver’s expertise will support the construction of SOCAR’s IT infrastructure, particularly strengthening the competitiveness of SOCAR’s call center operations by implementing Naver Cloud’s AI call center solution.

The plan also includes linking SOCAR’s mobility services with Naver Map and Naver Travel to enhance performance further and provide a comprehensive mobility solution for users.

This partnership aims to enhance the usability of Naver’s services, such as Naver Map and Naver Travel, by seamlessly integrating them with SOCAR’s mobility service.

This integration will provide users with a comprehensive solution, allowing them to book KTX tickets on Naver Map and reserve the Socar car-sharing service conveniently near their departure or destination locations. As a result, Naver Navigation will be installed in Socar car-sharing vehicles, further enhancing the overall user experience.

SOCAR, on the other hand, is combining its proprietary data with the capabilities of HyperCLOVA X to develop an AI-powered customer response system and elevate its recommendation and reservation functions.

Leveraging AI technology, Socar can efficiently deploy vehicles and determine optimal prices based on vehicle data, making the user experience more convenient and efficient.

Choi Soo-yeon, CEO of Naver, said, “By collaborating with Socar, Naver’s service expertise and technology will seamlessly deliver valuable information and benefits to users.”
