South Korean education technology startup LUXROBO said that it received the Worlddidac Outstanding Award 2020 for its modular robotics coding education kit named “MODI.”

This year’s Worlddidac Award shortlisted 27 innovative products, including LUXROBO’s MODI, which brought advancements in the global education industry. The Worlddidac Foundation judged the educational solutions to be of pedagogical value, innovation and high-quality and would receive the prestigious quality label the Worlddidac Award 2020.

The Highest Award in the Global Education Industry

LUXROBO’s MODI would also receive the award in the most competitive category the “Education resources for Primary Education.”

Out of the 27 shortlisted products, nine category winners would receive The Most Outstanding Product of 2020, the ICT Swisscom Innovation Award, and the Best Innovational Approach Award.

Along with the Worlddidac Association, the Worlddidac Foundation awards the Worlddidac Award as the highest honor in the global education industry. The prestigious independent biennial award recognizes innovation, quality, and practical application of teaching materials. An international panel of experts and a dedicated team of Swiss educators scrutinize the entries in terms of innovation, design, sustainability, suitability, and expediency.

LUXROBO

Established in 2014 by founder SangHun-Oh, LUXROBO specializes in coding edtech services in South Korea. The company developed a semiconductor operating system (OS) that could control robots in an organic and stable way.

Last year, LUXROBO received the Edutech Business Model grand prize from the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy and won the CES Innovation Award for Robotics.

The company recently introduced its coding education kit “Designer Kit Set” designed for homeschooling in the North American market. LUXROBO also aims to target the global education market with its “hello AI” and “Smart AI” artificial intelligence training kits.

MODI: LUXROBO’s Modular Coding Education Kit

LUXROBO developed MODI as an industry-recognized modular coding education kit for creating and connecting do-it-yourself robotics. The hardware platform consists of 21 input, output and setup modules, each with a specific function and software coding tools.

Jointly developed with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST), Seoul National University of Education (SNUE), and the Association of Teachers for Computing (ATC), LUXROBO created the MODI curriculum to comprise of 92 hours Expert kit and 20 hours for Smart AI.

MODI allows learners and users to acquire key concepts in coding and computer science in an exciting and engaging way. The modular education kit provides challenges for users to develop their critical and computational thinking skills through hands-on project-based activities.

In combination with a STEAM curriculum, 3D printing, and LEGO, MODI allows users to recognize each module’s function intuitively. Additionally, MODI’s unexposed circuit board provides the benefit of familiarity and safety, making it suitable for children.
