LG Electronics has unveiled the LG Smart Cottage, a modern, compact modular home that blends cutting-edge design with smart technology. This innovative living space is equipped with AI-powered appliances and advanced heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to enhance comfort and efficiency.
Aimed at individual consumers and businesses, the Smart Cottage targets those seeking a secondary residence in suburban or rural areas. LG first showcased the Smart Cottage as a prototype at IFA 2023, Europe’s largest home appliance exhibition.
Available for purchase through LG’s dedicated website, the Smart Cottage caters to a range of buyers, including consumers looking for vacation homes or quiet retreats and corporate clients seeking flexible housing solutions. With its focus on enhancing residential lifestyles, the modular home aims to change how people live in non-urban environments, offering both comfort and sustainability.
The LG Smart Cottage is available in the single-story “Mono” and the two-story “Duo.” The Mono model, with a living area 26.6㎡, features an open-plan design, combining a living room, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom into one cohesive space. In contrast, the Duo model, spanning 45.4㎡, separates the living and kitchen areas from the bedroom, which is situated on the second floor.Â
Both models emphasize energy efficiency, with the Mono starting at 200 million won and the Duo at 280 million won. The prices can increase with additional features such as solar panel installations, with the Mono+ and Duo+ versions reaching 290 million won and 390 million won, respectively.
Energy efficiency is a key focus for the Smart Cottage, featuring LG’s Therma V Monobloc air-to-water heat pump (AWHP) HVAC system. This system is designed to minimize energy consumption, ensuring that the cottage remains cost-effective and environmentally friendly. Additionally, homeowners can choose to install rooftop solar panels, which allow the Smart Cottage to generate a portion of its own energy, further reducing reliance on external power sources. This sustainability-driven design aligns with the increasing demand for eco-friendly living solutions.
Inside the Smart Cottage, LG has integrated premium home appliances from its Objet Collection, such as the WashTower Compact, a dishwasher, an induction cooktop, a lightwave oven, and a water purifier. These high-end appliances are connected through the LG ThinQ app, enabling users to easily control their environment. The app allows residents to manage the entire HVAC system, monitor energy consumption, and control other connected devices, including smart door locks, CCTV cameras, and electric blinds. LG’s IoT solutions ensure a fully integrated and convenient living experience.
LG will soon offer an upgrade with the ThinQ On hub for those seeking a fully connected, AI-powered home. This AI home system allows residents to interact with the Smart Cottage using voice commands, control appliances, manage IoT devices, and receive personalized care suggestions. The upgrade will enhance the Smart Cottage’s smart home capabilities, creating a more intuitive and seamless living environment.
The LG Smart Cottage is priced at 180 million won ($134,000) and offers a flexible, customizable residential solution. Customers can personalize their Smart Cottage by selecting options such as plot location, model type, interior and exterior colors, and finishing materials through the official website.Â
This customization feature allows buyers to tailor the home to their preferences and budget, with the website also providing estimated costs for various configurations. The Smart Cottage’s modular design ensures that it can meet a wide range of needs, from individual consumers seeking a secondary home to businesses in need of efficient, sustainable housing options.
Built using more than 70% pre-fabricated components, the Smart Cottage reduces construction time compared to traditional methods. LG claims that the use of pre-fabricated module structures, windows, wiring, and fixtures allows for a reduction of over 50% in construction time.
In collaboration with modular housing company SpaceWave, LG is positioning Smart Cottage as a highly flexible and efficient solution in the expanding modular housing market. This approach marks LG Electronics’ expansion into new business areas, setting a new standard for modern, tech-enabled living spaces.
