LG Display Expands Fourth-Gen OLED to TVs and Gaming

LG Display has unveiled its fourth-generation OLED display panel, designed to deliver exceptional image quality in the era of AI-powered TVs. With a peak brightness exceeding 4,000 nits—the highest in the industry—and 20% improved energy efficiency compared to its predecessor, the new panel is optimized for delivering perfect blacks and vivid colors, making it ideal for large-sized premium displays.

The panel’s enhanced brightness and efficiency address the growing demands of AI TVs, which require real-time content analysis and upscaling to produce ultra-high-definition visuals of up to 8K. By achieving 33% greater brightness than previous models, the new OLED panel ensures lifelike visuals while balancing energy consumption, solidifying LG Display’s leadership in OLED innovation.

LG Display’s fourth-generation OLED TV panel sets a new benchmark in display technology, combining brightness with enhanced energy efficiency. Capable of achieving a maximum brightness of 4,000 nits, the panel is 33% brighter than its predecessor and ensures ultra-high 8K resolution, delivering vibrant, lifelike colors and remarkable picture clarity. This innovation is tailored to meet the growing demands of AI-powered TVs that analyze and upscale content in real-time for optimal viewing experiences.

In addition to its visual advancements, the panel incorporates ultra-low reflection technology, reducing internal and external light reflections by 99%. This ensures deep blacks and an immersive viewing experience, even in brightly lit environments. Unlike conventional displays that struggle with color accuracy and brightness in high ambient light, the new OLED panel maintains a consistent color gamut and 100% accuracy at 500 lux, making it ideal for various lighting conditions.

The fourth-generation OLED is also designed with sustainability and user health in mind. It emits 45% less blue light than traditional LCD screens, minimizing potential harm to vision and sleep patterns. Furthermore, the manufacturing process uses over 90% fewer raw plastic materials than LCDs, while recycling rates for end-of-life components exceed 92.7%. These eco-friendly innovations align with LG Display’s commitment to sustainability.

LG Display aims to expand its fourth-generation OLED technology beyond premium AI TVs by gradually introducing it to high-end gaming monitors. These displays will include advanced features such as the world’s fastest response times, superior refresh rates, and bendable panels that adjust curvature based on gaming content. By leveraging its proprietary Primary RGB Tandem technology and ultra-low reflection innovation, the company aims to deliver high visual quality and an enhanced user experience tailored to gamers.

While LG Display remains focused on product innovation and cost competitiveness, CEO Jeong Cheol-dong has tempered expectations, predicting a challenging year ahead for the global display market. Despite current hurdles, the company is committed to achieving a turnaround by 2025 through its distinctive technologies and strategic initiatives. Plans are already in motion to apply the new OLED panels to mass-produced TV models this year and to gaming displays in the near future, reinforcing its leadership in the premium display market.
