KT Corporation, a prominent mobile carrier, is venturing into the robotics sector, seeking to capitalize on opportunities outside the realm of telecommunications. Drawing upon its extensive experience and expertise in information and communication technology (ICT), KT aims to establish a foothold in the burgeoning field of robotics.
Daedong Group‘s subsidiary focused on future agriculture, Daedong, recently partnered with KT. The agreement was centered on AI-based agricultural technology innovation and collaboration in the AI robot domain.Â
The collaboration between the two entities is centered on the development of artificial intelligence (AI)- driven services and robots tailored for the agricultural industry. Specifically, they aim to leverage LLM (Large Language Model)- based AI technology to enhance precision agriculture and introduce AI-powered solutions for agricultural robots.
Daedong and KT have outlined their plans to use the advancement of ‘AI in agriculture’ beyond mere digitalization. Together, they intend to expedite the progress of AI-based precision agriculture solutions and develop AI systems for both agricultural and non-agricultural robots.Â
With this, the duo plans to increase agricultural productivity through innovative applications of AI technology.Â
The collaborative efforts between Daedong and KT encompass an agenda spanning five key areas. These include developing AI agricultural robot systems, innovation in agricultural generative AI technology utilizing LLM, and establishing on-device AI technology for enhanced robot capabilities.Â
Additionally, the partnership aims to promote the expansion of the robot business in both agricultural and non-agricultural sectors and establish a data platform under the auspices of Daedong Group.
Daedong has taken the initiative to promote sustainable growth through its ‘AgTech’ initiative. By venturing into three new business sectors—Smart Agricultural Machinery, Smart Mobility, and Smart Farm—Daedong aims to work in agricultural technology.Â
Shin Soo-jeong, Vice President and Head of KT’s Strategic New Business Division, talked about their recent initiative in digital innovation in the agricultural sector. Leveraging its advanced AI capabilities, KT aims to employ AI in agricultural robots and precision agriculture services, contributing to sustainability efforts such as food security through technological innovation.Â
Meanwhile, Daedong’s CEO, Yoo Won-hyun, highlighted the increasing importance of AI technology in the global agricultural market, which is driven by the need for enhanced productivity amid climate and population changes.Â
Daedong, known for its leadership in domestic agricultural mechanization, is transitioning into an agtech company, integrating data, AI, and robotics to promote sustainable growth.Â
Daedong plans to spearhead innovations in the agricultural sector through initiatives such as launching smart agricultural machinery and advancing smart farming practices.
