KT and Kyndryl Join Forces to Drive AI Transformation Across Regulated Industries

Strategic collaboration aims to boost enterprise innovation, enhance infrastructure security, and advance KT’s digital transformation roadmap

South Korea’s telecom leader KT Corp. has entered into a strategic partnership with Kyndryl Holdings Inc., a U.S.-based IT infrastructure services firm, to accelerate its artificial intelligence transformation (AX) initiatives. The agreement, signed in San Francisco, represents a significant step in KT’s broader plan to evolve from a traditional telecommunications provider into a full-scale digital transformation partner for enterprises.

The partnership brings together KT’s telecommunications and cloud expertise with Kyndryl’s global capabilities in IT infrastructure design, system management, and cybersecurity. Together, the two companies plan to co-develop and deliver AI-powered solutions designed for business-to-business (B2B) customers, particularly those operating in regulated industries such as finance and the public sector.

Expanding AI Capabilities in Regulated Sectors

KT’s AI transformation efforts are being shaped by the growing need for secure and compliant digital solutions across heavily regulated markets. Through the new collaboration, KT plans to offer customized AX services that address each client’s specific security and governance requirements.

Under the agreement, KT and Kyndryl will:

  • Jointly pursue AI, cloud, and cybersecurity projects for B2B clients in South Korea.
  • Research and design AI-, cloud-, and network-based security architectures to meet different regulatory standards.
  • Develop and modernize internal systems to strengthen KT’s digital infrastructure and operational agility.

These initiatives are expected to support KT’s entry into new markets while ensuring that clients in sensitive sectors can adopt AI-driven technologies without compromising data protection or regulatory compliance.

Building a Stronger Foundation for AI Transformation

The collaboration is not limited to external projects. A key part of the partnership focuses on KT’s internal digital transformation. The company plans to upgrade its IT systems, modernize its internal infrastructure, and deploy AI-based management tools to improve efficiency and scalability.

Another major component is employee upskilling. KT and Kyndryl will conduct joint training programs to strengthen the AI transformation skills of KT’s workforce. This initiative is expected to help KT’s executives and engineers adapt to new technologies and integrate AI more effectively into day-to-day operations.

By investing in both internal modernization and workforce training, KT aims to build long-term resilience and maintain leadership in Korea’s fast-evolving digital economy.

Kyndryl’s Global Expertise Strengthens the Partnership

Kyndryl, which was spun off from IBM’s infrastructure services division in 2021, is one of the world’s largest IT infrastructure service providers. It supports thousands of enterprise clients across more than 60 countries, offering services that include advisory, implementation, and managed operations for large-scale IT systems.

Kyndryl’s deep experience in complex system design and security governance makes it an ideal partner for KT, particularly as Korea accelerates its adoption of AI and cloud-based solutions across industries.

“We are proud to work with KT to expand the adoption of AI throughout its operations,” said Petra Goude, President for Strategic Markets at Kyndryl. “This collaboration will enable KT to support customers more effectively in the AI era.”

Her remarks underscore Kyndryl’s broader mission: helping enterprises modernize infrastructure while maintaining operational stability, reliability, and compliance — critical factors for industries under tight regulatory oversight.

KT’s Broader Digital Transformation Vision

For KT, the partnership with Kyndryl aligns with its AI transformation roadmap aimed at enhancing competitiveness in emerging technology sectors. The telecom company has been investing heavily in AI, cloud, and data analytics to expand beyond its core communication services.

“Through collaboration with Kyndryl, we will be able to strengthen our AI, cloud, and security capabilities, as well as our global execution,” said Jung Woo-jin, Head of KT’s Strategic and Business Consulting Division. “We will provide stable and reliable AI transformation services to customers in the public sector, finance, and other major industries.”

This statement highlights KT’s focus on trust and reliability—two factors that will be key as enterprises shift toward AI-powered operations. By combining local market knowledge with Kyndryl’s global reach, KT aims to offer end-to-end digital transformation support to Korean businesses navigating rapid technological change.

Analysis: Strengthening Korea’s AI Ecosystem

The KT–Kyndryl partnership is more than a commercial agreement—it reflects a broader trend of convergence between telecom and IT infrastructure sectors in South Korea. As the country pushes forward with its national AI and cloud computing plans, collaborations like this one are crucial for ensuring that innovation extends beyond consumer services to enterprise and public sectors.

The agreement also highlights three strategic implications:

  1. Acceleration of enterprise AI adoption: Joint AI and security projects can lower the barriers for Korean businesses to adopt intelligent systems safely.
  2. Talent and capability development: KT’s employee training programs will help close the AI skills gap across Korea’s tech ecosystem.
  3. Global competitiveness: By aligning with Kyndryl’s global operations model, KT positions itself as a strong regional player capable of exporting AI transformation services beyond domestic markets.

In essence, this partnership signals a maturing phase in Korea’s digital economy, where large corporations are moving from isolated innovation projects to strategic, scalable AI transformation initiatives backed by global expertise.
