Hyundai Elevator Collaborates with KT and LG Electronics to Boost Robot-Elevator Linkage Business

In collaboration with KT and LG Electronics, Hyundai Elevator has joined hands to develop innovative robotics services for smart buildings and cities. The three companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to cooperate on the robot-elevator linkage business and boost growth in the robot industry.

The signing ceremony, which took place at the Vision Studio in the Hyundai Group Building. Doik Han Do, head of Hyundai’s elevator service business, Lee Sang-ho, head of KT’s AI robotics business, and Noh Kyu-chan, head of LG Electronics’ robotics business, were attendees. The agreement entails exploring ways to enhance mobility competitiveness, including developing elevator and robot interlocking services and venturing into new business prospects.

The three companies have already collaborated on successful projects at prestigious locations like Yonsei University College of Medicine’s Yongin Severance Hospital, Seoul National University Hospital in Bundang, Haeundae Chosun Hotel, Shinhan Bank building, and Hanwha Resort.

By leveraging KT’s communication and AI voice recognition technology alongside LG Electronics’ robotics expertise, Hyundai Elevator plans to provide comprehensive robot services linked to elevators, fostering growth and revitalization within the robotics industry.

Lee Sang-ho, head of KT AI Robotics Business Unit, expressed views on the collaboration’s potential impact on creating a smart urban environment and generating social value through the convergence of robot technology and the elevator industry.

This strategic alliance is expected to help the companies advantageously in significant construction projects like Neom City in Saudi Arabia and Indonesia’s capital relocation initiative.

The companies will establish an open API and drive cooperative services across elevators, robots, and AI technology through this project.

“Through this agreement, we expect to expand and revitalize the robotics industry by providing various robot services linked to elevators through close collaboration between the three companies,” said Lee Sang-ho, head of KT AI Robotics Business Unit.

“We will take the lead in creating a smart urban environment and creating social value through the convergence of robotics technology and the elevator industry,” he added.

The elevator-robot linkage service developed through this partnership holds significant potential for diverse applications across multiple sectors. In apartment buildings, it can facilitate delivery services for couriers and ordered food, enhancing convenience for residents. Additionally, in medical facilities, the technology has the potential to streamline the transport of drugs and medicines, contributing to more efficient healthcare operations.

With a history of collaborative efforts that began last year, Hyundai Elevator, KT, and LG Electronics have provided cooperative services involving elevators, robots, and artificial intelligence (AI) technology. This includes prominent locations such as Yongin Severance Hospital, Seoul National University Hospital in Bundang, and Haeundae Chosun Hotel.

“The future urban projects being promoted globally are hard to imagine without elevator-robot interlocking that connects the vertical and horizontal,” said Doik Han, head of Hyundai Elevator Services. “Based on the development of interlocking technology between elevators and robots, we will explore new markets with a focus on efficiency and scalability.”
