Wireless carrier ST Corporation plans to pivot into Wi-Fi 7 technology with Intel, the US-based technology company. With ST’s new endeavours, the Korean Wi-Fi AP market will see new upgrades and advancements.

Internet access in South Korea is primarily dominated by three key players: LG Uplus, SK Telecom, and KT. About 95% of the total population owns internet connectivity. In 2021, the internet access market accounted for USD 3.7 billion and also witnessed a rise in market consumption volume during the same time.

On the flip side, the high-speed internet infrastructure in Korea has continuously dropped from number 1 in 2017 and number 2 in 2019 to number 7 in 2021 and number 34 last year.

South Korea has been viewing a feasible list of network setups from big telecom companies like ST throughout the years. It is anticipated that most of the share of this frequent deterioration is because of the implementation of a hybrid fibre-coax network and the under usage of fibre-optic cables.

But the current non-lucrative condition does not imply the inefficiency of internet speed. The major portion of the country is based on technological advancements. The internet in South Korea is stable and capable of bestowing top-notch streaming services.

ST Corporation and Intel’s MOU are one step towards better tech and user interface. The 802.11be IEEE standard, Wi-Fi 7 is perceived as the future. Wi-Fi 7 gives up to 11.5 Gbps for speedy video downloading, AR, VR, teleconferencing and high-quality images and videos.

Wi-Fi 7 will likely go live by 2024. Both parties are hoping for a rapid entry into the next-generation Wi-Fi market with this partnership. Development of wireless Wi-Fi AP falls under ST Corporation while Intel will be in charge of developing Wi-Fi 7 solutions.

Ever since artificial intelligence (AI) services such as ChatGPT came into the limelight, a drastic wave of AI has been floating around. Following the trend, ST Corporation is investing in the development and innovation of AI technology. In the latest edition of Mobile World Congress 2023, one of the greatest events in tech across the world, ST showcased their AI capabilities.

They presented their hyper-scale AI service dubbed MI:DEUM. The company also unveiled its desire to commercialize this technology in near future. Apart from that, they brought together a manifestation of digital transformation like semiconductors, robots and logistic solutions.

KT aims to go to higher lengths outside South Korea. The corporation is expanding its operations in major parts of Southeast Asia. For this purpose, they have forged a couple of partnerships so far with Singapore Telecommunication Ltd. as well as Converge

With KT Corporation’s partnership with the Singaporean telecom partner, AI-based logistics solutions will be exchanged from KT’s end. Using the geographical information systems, KT plans to assemble a best-in-class ‘Logistics Intelligence Suite for Freight Optimization’ solution specifically for Singapore. Possibly, these logistic solutions will be ready for commercial use by September.

The South Korean government has put a cap limit of 400,000 cargo trucks while the logistic market is swiftly growing day by day. It’s causing an imbalance between demand and supply. There’s a need for optimization and efficacy in delivery which KT Corporation can provide.

It’s the era of the presence of technology within business operations. As the realization goes, KT has signed another deal with Converge ICT Solutions, a telecommunication service provider from the Philippines.

Be its cloud-based video surveillance solutions, transportation management tech, or integrated wired or wireless communication service. Through this partnership, both players will be providing cutting-edge solutions for changing business processes and environments.
