VUNO Inc, the South Korean AI medical solutions firm, has signed a contract with Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd to develop an X-ray diagnostic solution. The Samsung-manufactured GC85A diagnostic device will have VUNO’s AI-powered functions to offer a better radiography system.
The duo had come together in June for a different contract that worked on similar AI-powered medical equipment. Following their last contract, their Med-Chest X-ray solution is made available in Korea, Europe, and several other parts of the world. After embedding a mobile digital radiography system in Samsung’s GM85, VUNO has partnered with the South Korean tech giant for another contract signed last week.
The Med-Chest X-ray device developed by Samsung and AI-powered by VUNO works on areas prone to various pulmonary diseases. It accurately recognizes the thoracic dysfunction through chest radiographs. With this, the system essentially helps healthcare providers detect such areas for the diagnosis of pneumonia and tuberculosis.
VUNO and Samsung Electronics aim to work closely in partnership by expanding their standard installation to ceiling models. The two firms do not intend to limit the new models for domestic sales. Instead, the foreign market that the companies wish to capture includes Europe and some major South Asian countries.
The co-founder and CEO of VUNO, Hyun-jun Kim, addressed the media regarding the new project that the company has signed with Samsung. “Based on the company’s high degree of perfection, it could install VUNO Med-Chest X-ray on Samsung Electronics’ two premium X-ray equipment,” he said.
Vuno expressed that the global digital X-ray market will expand to $13.04 billion in the next couple of years. On the other hand, Samsung has also shown interest in taking its partnership with VUNO to the next level.
In an interview with the media, Jang Woo-young, head of Samsung Electronics’ digital radiography business team, also addressed the new venture. He quoted, “This deal will allow Samsung Electronics to provide an advanced system that integrates AI technology into our key premium X-ray devices to markets worldwide.”
Industry experts suggest that if the partnership continues to bring out new AI-powered medical products and devices, it can capture a great space in the global market.
While discussing the development of the new product, a VUNO official said that the clinicians could easily get the Med-Chest X-ray solution integrated with many of their X-ray equipment. It is due to the AI algorithms that have managed to reduce model weight by optimizing the computations.
As a result, the Med-Chest X-ray solution enables quick data processing in both CPU and GPU environments. With this, the results examined through artificial intelligence can be easily seen while X-rays are run.
