Hyundai Mobis, South Korea’s leading automotive parts supplier, announced that it succeeded in developing M.Brain after three years of research and development. M.Brain is the world’s first-ever in-vehicle healthcare technology based on brainwave measurement.

Hyundai Mobis’ newest development also gained attention for introducing brainwave measurement tech to the automotive sector for the first time. In particular, the company received acclaim for employing advanced brainwave measurement, known for being a challenging biosignal technology to handle.

Tracking Health Status in Real-Time

The company’s new brainwave monitoring technology remarkably determines the driver’s health status in real-time by detecting brainwaves around the ears. Hyundai Mobis’ M.Brain also performs this task using earpiece sensors.

Furthermore, M.Brain’s central software technology determines and analyzes brainwave data. Hyundai Mobis also employed machine learning to interpret the accumulated brainwave signals, further demonstrating its R&D commitment.

According to Hyundai Mobis, M.Brain could also interwork with smartphone apps, providing notifications to drivers when losing focus while driving. As a result, the in-vehicle healthcare tech system significantly lessens vehicular accidents from negligence or drowsy driving.

In addition to being an accident prevention solution, M.Brain offers alerts for various sensory organs. For instance, M.Brain sends notifications to drivers through headrest speakers for hearing, LEDs for sight, and vibrating seats for touch.

Showing M.Brain’s Infinite Potential

The Hyundai Motor parts and service unit also plans to introduce M.Brain trial runs across various public bus transportation services in Gyeonggi Province and surrounding Seoul regions. Moreover, the company would actively collaborate with transportation operators and local governments to apply M.Brain to commercial vehicles.

Hyundai Mobis also aims to tackle the global in-vehicle healthcare technology market with its accumulated brainwave analysis data. To this end, the company would extend M.Brain’s application scope to purpose-built vehicles, self-driving cars, and smart cities in the future.

At present, the previously mentioned sector continues to grow, introducing cutting-edge technologies, including eye-tracking and pulse rate counting. Meanwhile, Hyundai Mobis had steadily shown progress in developing in-vehicle healthcare solutions using biosignal technologies.

Previously in 2020, Hyundai Mobis developed the Rear Occupant Alert, a system that prevents child passenger accidents using radar sensors. The company also introduced the world’s first roof airbag last year, preventing injuries and creating a safer car environment.

Similarly, Hyundai Mobis presented the Departed Driver Rescue and Exit Maneuver, an accident prevention technology, at the CES 2018.
