Samsung Electronics announced that they would be expanding the availability of the Samsung Health Monitor app. Samsung’s expansion of the health service and fitness app will reach 31 new countries. Depending on the market and carrier, the Samsung Health Monitor app will be available to Galaxy Watch3 and Galaxy Watch Active2 on February 4.

In December 2020, the South Korean electronics company received the Conformity to European (CE) marking for the healthcare app. The CE marking indicates that a product conforms to the health, safety, and environmental standards of the European Union.

Due to the CE marking, Samsung can extend the operation of the fitness app to 28 European countries. Some of the European countries with newly established access to the app include Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, and Germany. Other countries include Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK. Additionally, Samsung will launch the health-tracking app in Chile, Indonesia, and the UAE, bringing the total to 31 countries.

Samsung Health Monitor app features

Following its 2020 domestic release, Samsung made the Samsung Health Monitor app available to users in Brazil and the US. Through the app, users with Galaxy smartwatches such as the Galaxy Watch3 and Galaxy Watch Active2 can access the features offered. The app’s main features include providing users insights on blood pressure measurements and access to electrocardiogram (ECG) tracking functions.

For maximum accuracy, users need to calibrate their Galaxy smartwatches with a traditional cuff at least every four weeks. Through pulse wave analysis, the app measures blood pressure and monitors heart rate. On the other hand, the ECG function evaluates electrical activities in the heart through sensors on the Galaxy smartwatches. The app will classify a user’s heart rate as either a Sinus rhythm (normal heartbeat) or an AFib (irregular heartbeat).

“Nearly one million people have used the Samsung Health Monitor app to manage their health since its initial launch in Korea last June,” said Taejong Jay Yang, Samsung Electronics’ Corporate SVP and head of Health Team, Mobile Communications Business. “We’re committed to bringing this innovative health service to more people across the world, and the latest expansion marks a major milestone in our mission.”
