The Seoul Global Startup Center (SGSC) held its annual SGSC Demo Day event to help new, and emerging companies connect with prospective investors and establish social networks. The virtual event organized by the SGSC successfully pushed through on December 23, 2020. The SGSC said that the organization decided to conduct the event online with limited participants due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government formed the Seoul Global Startup Center in cooperation with N15 Co., and WeWorkLabs Korea. Based in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, N15, and WeWorkLabs jointly operate the Center and offer additional support for global startups. The Center provides assistance, mentoring services, funding vouchers, and even office spaces for qualified startup applicants.

Opportunity to Showcase Innovations

The event provided residents, graduates, and alumni the opportunity to pitch in their products and be screened by third-party judges. The three winning teams underwent a selection process by a panel of judges consisting of Korean and international venture companies.

Business categories like platform service, internet of things (IoT), business consulting, education, lifestyle, beauty, food, and medical sectors, joined the event.

The said businesses consist of SeoulZ, Plus Alpha, Ekport Korea, GEC, oneCHARGE Solutions, Tooti, Oysterable, Apollo EduTech, Descry, and DamoGO.

DamoGO won first place in the Demo Day, followed by Apollo Edu Tech and Oysterable in third place. DamoGo mobile service app helps the environment by consuming leftover food and creating an organic ecosystem. Apollo Edu Tech offers coding education through unplugged gaming while Oysterable boosts recycling with IoT Smart Bin & Reward app.

Hyunwook Jung, the beSUCCESS company CEO, participated as one of the judges for the Demo Day. Jung hopes that the successful and fruitful event would bring new and more opportunities to startups entering the global market.

According to SGSC, the Center aims to support the startup ecosystem locally and globally. The organization hosts events to support startups in scaling up in IR networking and pitching skills. Through events like Demo Day, startups could attract investments and expand Korean and international venture companies’ connections.

The online platform, nextunicorn (nextunicorn.kr), would air the video and details of the Demo Day event.
